So many cool writers posting their lifting victories and I wanted in. Back at it baybeee, and for the first time in months! Much lighter weight than my last workout, but weightlifting is an ongoing exercise in caring for my body and its limits, so that's just fine. Strength is a long game.
Devoured @nightgleaming.bsky.social's "Living Fossils" tonight. Picked it up twice at the bookstore and finally could not resist its call. Love love love the language, the use of natural phenomena and geologic time as a lens for the human and deeply personal. Gorgeous. Loved every page.
As always, there is a lot I will get wrong as a parent. But I'm pretty happy with how we're doing this piece.
I haven't read a book of poetry cover to cover in a single sitting in over a year and I inhaled this one. Permanent favorite. Exquisite. I needed it. Perfect start to National Poetry Month.
Can't get much better than a giant pile of banana pancakes on a Sunday morning.
Another 2026 goal: less digital, more physical. So in that spirit, forget a fun graphic, let's do this the old fashioned way.
Bumped into this at a local used bookstore and immediately fell head over heels in love with the study of vernacular photography, a discipline I did not know existed until a few hours ago. Books are amazing.
It's been a rough stretch in my tiny corner of the world, but we just had a gorgeous morning out with the kid, the weather is *finally* turning, and I am sitting on the back porch in the cool breeze writing poems with my dog and my beloved while the baby naps. Grateful for this small perfect moment.
Tonight for No Write Time we read Helli Fang's "ars poetica" from her collection "Village of Knives" and published by @driftwoodpress.bsky.social
Friends, I cannot stress this enough: the book is *hefty.* It's a cinder block. A genuine tome. Like, look at this thing.
Got my copy of @casswhit.bsky.social's "Wolf Devouring A Wolf Devouring A Wolf" in the mail today and the double meanings and form of the very first piece had me banging the table and yelling "POETRY!!" at my befuddled husband. So excited to spend some time with this book.
I picked up @jestintzi.bsky.social's "Junebat" years ago, and I'm kind of glad I waited to read it until now, when it feels like I *need* these poems. They are aching and tender and gorgeous, and my god, the last lines!! A gift, this whole collection.
Things could be a lot worse though, and writing that post was the impetus for looking up the Wikipedia page for tiddlywinks and discovering the most fun terminology list I think I've ever seen.
Chilling with my kid, listening to the Twin Peaks soundtrack and reading on a drizzly day. Doesn't get much better than this.
On the one hand my car died just now, halfway through my week of PTO. On the other the staff at the dentist (where I had an appt before I'd planned to get myself a little treat) are letting me sit in their AC, and I brought Alice Notley along. Could be worse!
Got my postcards from @postcardlit.bsky.social in the mail today!! Each one is a stunner but oh, this one. This one by @erindorney.bsky.social. Yes. Damn.
Maybe it's because I've read these books hundreds of times at this point but I'm increasingly convinced that Jon Klassen is one of the best writers around.
