i’ve got to make it first! here is my usual olive oil cake recipe—everyone loves it. my basil needs pruning so i think i will incorporate some of that somehow. pears will be chopped up and mixed with lemon and sugar i think. and mixed into the batter just before putting it into the pan.
have decided to repurpose an old piece of a chair leg to make a new handle for my bacon weight. need to trim it to fit and then i will shape it into some kind of octagon. also am almost ready to glue up the first of two paralettes i’ve been making
pictured is soup and homemade bread. i think i will make some kind of tadka when i eat it again but i am too hungry and impatient, so i will eat the bland version tonight.
sawing curves in a 2x4 is so annoying but i have the rough shape of the sides for a set of paralettes. now to use rasps and files to make the curves nice and smooth.
v satisfying scraping the grubby, marked up finish off this tabletop. there are a couple of trouble spots that i’ll need to touch up with steel wool, but the bare wood surface is basically ready to oil.
gluing up the little table. kind of messed up the skew of the leg on the right side of this picture but i’m hoping it will be ok/not too tippy. i always drill holes for legs at too shallow of an angle! did this last month for my chopping block too.
thank you. i’m close to being able to glue up this table. sharpening tools and sawing are both is very good for my brain.
made a triangular tabletop today out of a bit of scrap. very pleased with it, even if i did a terrible job drilling leg mortises. will finish shaping legs tomorrow. also sewed a little cardboard booklet to store my cabinet scrapers in. productive, but i forgot how taxing sewing while sleepy is.
trimmed and reshaped some ailing wooden spoons. pleased with the simple outcome. have since taking this picture oiled them and they look very handsome.
i appreciate the morbid baby yoda posting but no one will surpass will sloan’s journey with the green menace.
hello to the various plants which are bravely surviving their first week outside on the fire escape. also hello to the neighbour cat who, in adding this apartment to his domain, has now regular access to 3/6 apartments in the building.
it’s rainy out so my downstairs neighbour cat hasn’t come to visit in a couple of days. i want him to come back. please large furry orange guy. the armchair is ready for you. the other day i tried to give him some yogurt and instead he smeared it all over his head.
good news, the downstairs neighbour’s outdoor appears to have moved in with me.
my computer devices love to find the most emotionally vulnerable times to show me pictures of my cat i haven’t seen in almost three years. long day. love you forever handpig.
have been enjoying learning to use an axe to axe out spoons. it’s much faster to remove wood with an axe rather than a knife, but i am finding it very tiring so far. have to do a lot of thinking about how to hold the spoon securely before i bop it.
very successful! have since leveled the legs and used the block to axe out a wooden spoon and a wooden spatula which i don’t have pictures of yet. very satisfying work! lovely chats with my various neighbours.
yesterday, successfully sawed out a log from this branch in the parc to be converted into an axing block. so sore today.
