Passionate about #EqualityForAll #HumanRights 🏴 Primary Teacher in #Orkney. She/her. Free Palestine! Antifa. All views my own "A good teacher...so far"
Since it's been the agricultural show week here in #Orkney this week's cheeseboard highlights Orkney cheese, crackers and chutneys. I do appreciate our local produce and producers! #Cheese #ShopLocal
Apparently out of all my to-do list, playing around with an updated banner was the priority this afternoon 😆 But seriously, I don't hide what I stand for, and I will keep using my voice to speak out against injustice and for equal rights and social justice. Feels like it needs saying this week.
7 years ago I got off a flight to Kirkwall for a 1 year teaching job. 7 years later I'm a homeowner and can't imagine living anywhere else 🥰 I'm incredibly fortunate and grateful that life has brought me here. Made the most of local salmon and scallops for dinner tonight to celebrate. #Orkney #Home🏠
The relief of being able to adjust for period pain during the summer holidays and cuddle up on the couch with tea, comfort food, heat pack and a good book. Instead of powering through hormonal highs and lows, with cramps, while presenting a positive face to a class of 30 kids #EduSky
There's lots I love about my new house but I fell in love with it when I saw the kitchen! So much storage space!
Behold the drawer organisation! I'd got one set of Joseph Joseph blox organisers for my cutlery and used some of the excess in this drawer. Indulged in another set and now feeling rather gleeful about everything being tidy and organised in this drawer. Then let's see what it looks like in a month! 😆
My contributions this week are An Alien in the Jam Factory by @chrissiesains.bsky.social and illustrated by Jenny Taylor The Dinosaur next door by David Litchfield #KidsBookFriday I've introduced pupils to An Alien in the jam factory for a few years & they all love it! David hits the spot again too!
Since some people are talking about the revealed £2 single fare bus cap. Today; using the already applied fare cap in the North of the UK (you know the North of Scotland Burnham), I went out to @nessofbrodgar.bsky.social in the #HeartOfNeolithicOrkney Yay for #PublicTransport @timeteam.bsky.social
This is covering the last season at the Ness. There is currently a focused dig going on at the site which Time Team are also involved in and there will be a further episode sharing what's been found there. My 3 year old nephew took photos to share with my parents this week!
It's been wonderful to have my immediate family here over the last 3 weeks, especially introducing my nephew to #Orkney. The last of them left Friday, yesterday I had @amnestyscotland.bsky.social in-person training, & committee catch up for Orkney Friends of Palestine. Today=couch day! #AndRest
I'm just going with @nadiashireen.bsky.social appreciation post for this one 👏 🥳 I love Billy and the Beast as does every child I've shared it with. As for Grimwood, adored and the rest of the series consumed by so many when I use it as a class novel! #KidsBooksFriday
#womenedwednesday @womenedscotland.bsky.social Summer beaches across Scotland 😄💜
I made it to the end of the school year 🥳😴😵💫 Many of my cards and gifts were reading themed and I've had so many author mentions from my pupils in the last 2 weeks! This was one card 😍🥹 so I think I've done alright this year 🤞 @ldlapinski.bsky.social made such an impact during their visit 👏
Well clearly anything by @hannahgold.bsky.social 🥰😍 But talking of the Highlands I have to highlight a wonderful Scottish author @lindsaylittleson.bsky.social and Rewilders! I adore this book! I'd also add @emmaillustrate.bsky.social with Amara and the bats #KidsBooksFriday #KidLit #ScoEdu #EduSky
Weirdly enough so am I. Love Brother Cadfael, picked this one up front a charity shelf in my bank the other week. Happy reading!
I'm blaming my pupils for this! Their enthusiasm and excitement has made me turn the match on...I may mainly focus on some more boxes and doubt I'll make full time 😆 #WorldCup #SCOMOR #NoScotlandNoParty 🏴🤞
One of my favourite things about my new house is the view from my bedroom window 😍 sea and big skies. Taken just before midnight #Orkney #SimmerDim
A P1 pupil was using my library corner today & ended up looking at this with a support assistant. I was going past & when they had it explained to them they couldn't believe that in the past their classmate wouldn't have been allowed to be in the same class as them in the USA. Books matter! #KidLit
It's been a long day but all went smoothly and while there's boxes everywhere I'm satisfied. The flowers are from my new neighbours to welcome me to the street 🥰 extra lovely as they're a school family and I taught one of them 🥹 so rather touched. Feeling very grateful and privileged
So this happened yesterday 🤩 Overall the process has been straightforward but yesterday was a will it/won't it complete today which was a bit nerve-wracking. 3.20pm and I heard the house was mine 🎉🏡🥂 #NewHome #Homeowner
I'd have said Drawn to Change, so I'll say Amara and the bats @emmaillustrate.bsky.social instead! Also love Global! Anything by the wonderful @drjessfrench.bsky.social 👍🏻 but I really love What a Waste #KidsBooksFriday
The sun came out and I decided to celebrate the #MayBankHoliday with a meze platter instead of the usual cheeseboard.
