do I think the 3 issue arc he wrote where DD takes on a billionaire land developer who speaks like a manosphere podcaster and takes government contracts for low income housing to spread his fungus powers and leech off the poor was a well written story? not really, but I like where his head was at
caught up on Saladin Ahmed’s Daredevil, and unfortunately it‘s a meandering bafflingly paced mess that ends with a whimper. but there are strong moments scattered throughout, in particular I liked how Ahmed wrote fight scenes that actually incorporate Daredevil’s blindness and exceptional hearing
12. Phil Collins - Face Value really can’t stand 2/3rds of this album at all despite giving it many chances, but In the Air Tonight is undeniably one of the sickest songs of all time, and I’m a big fan of The Roof is Leaking as well. I love Phil when he sounds haunted
11. Noah’s Ark (1928) obviously preachy as hell and features some truly dire talkie segments that bring the pacing to a screeching halt, but Michael Curtiz went the fuck OFF with this montage early in the movie
10. My Dress-Up Darling I love the leads, there is a genuine sweetness to the romance in this comic that surprised me. and I like how much the story focuses on the extremely granular craft of creating good cosplay. it’s a real shame it often veers off course to cater to an audience of sex offenders
9. Goat Simulator I love the idea of just creating a buggy physics sandbox full of surprises and secrets, built entirely around exploring and smashing shit and testing the edges of the game to see what the devs predicted you’d try, but it’s also just like, soooooo annoying though
8. Marco sold as “the most violent Indian action movie ever made” and probably also the most unpleasant, but there are some solid action scenes and killer hype and aura moments, like Marco slowmo walking past wall of fire into villain’s lair in sunglasses smoking a cigar and carrying a severed head
7. The Invincible Iron Man by Don Heck and Stan Lee pretty easily the worst title of the 60s Marvel boom, Heck just doesn’t have the juice when it comes to action scenes or colorful villains, but whenever he can squeeze in his true skill for drawing melodrama the book suddenly comes alive
6. Drake - Nothing Was the Same the vibes are as gross as you’d expect from a 2013 song by Drake with a Weeknd writing credit, but I can’t deny that Hold On, We’re Going Home is just a fucking great melancholy pop jam. a lonely groove that makes you feel a little hopeful and sad at the same time
