I think gloriously weird might be my favourite genre - anything quirky makes me happy. These four popped into my head but will be remembering more all weekend now!

Thank you @coralrumble.bsky.social for my copy of When Skeletons Rise. I was on holiday by the sea (not quite Cornwall but Devon) which was the perfect place to read this. It is a gentle story about acceptance and fitting in but combines that with the excitement of pirates, history and adventure!

A comical start to the weekend, Mighty Mega Pets are proper action heroes and the characters are brilliantly funny (my favourite is a grumpy tortoise called Arthur). The vibrant illustrations are just as bonkers but the wit and silliness is what really makes it for me. @stupidmonster.bsky.social

I love a cover that opens out. One of the children at school was particularly impressed with this one because of the hidden details from the story (and it is gorgeously tactile).

I find it interesting that some illustrators are credited on the cover and others aren’t even mentioned when a cover reveal is posted on social media. Surely that is the very least a publisher should do? Love all of these #UkLidLit #KidLitUK

I feel like this would need a lot more thinking and a spreadsheet but my quick list as a starter…

Whoops was a book my youngest could “read” to herself before she was 2. With only one word on each spread she was still delighted every time she turned the page. We still regularly quote bits from the others 20 years later!

I’ve chosen these four but it is reassuring that there are so many others in the thread. I grew up in the countryside but now live in London so a different variety of nature here but always tried to make sure my children appreciated it. Currently watching the puffin cam on Farne!

Even later than usual but I don’t think these have been mentioned yet. Decided that teams can be different sizes and take different forms but these all include characters working together!

As you’ve already said, lots of types of story could be adventure stories so I’ve chosen a range but I could have included so many!

Fake and Away With Words are favourites of mine and The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge was brilliant. I don’t read much for this age group but enjoyed Echostar by @melindasalisbury.com

Without knowing much about the Artemis program, I turned the radio on just after they lifted off. I find space fascinating and scary in equal measure but thought we needed some books to celebrate in the school library. I hope these will inspire future scientists! #KidLitUK #UKKidLit

A departure from my normal diet of children’s books. Started it at the weekend and I’m nearly half way through but it’s chunky! Just as well it’s the Easter holidays.

There are some really great covers too. I often look at them after I’ve finished the book to see all the clever details they have added.

I don’t read many picture books but the illustrations in these are stunning.

When I first read I Am Wolf by @alastairc.com, I started it with some trepidation because I wasn’t sure it could live up to his other sci-fi books. How wrong I was! I’m sad to have to say goodbye to all the brilliant characters but We Are Dragon is a beautiful end to the trilogy. #KidLitUK #UKKidLit

There is such a wide variety that it is difficult to choose.
