A bit of a fudge because it’s about 50/50 Spanish and English but a truly underrated romcom with one of my favorite “what love means to me” speeches (and it’s not between the main characters!).

This series is my first entree into “monster” romance… they’re absurd but fun and easy reads. The demon MMC in the second book of the series had real “reads autistic” energy (he’s got no experience with humans or feelings and is very literal while trying to figure them out) which I really enjoyed.

In my ears: just finished Swept Away. I can be skeptical of a whirlwind (or trauma bond) romance, but this was some of the best character & relationship exploration and foundation-building I’ve read in awhile.

This is my fourth reread, and I really think this might be one of my favorite books. It’s a YA “Sherlock meets Veronica Mars” caper… but it’s so smart and funny and just a great time. When I think about books I’ve really enjoyed, this always makes the list.

Taking @brianzahnd.bsky.social’s class on Demons by Dostoevsky over the coming weeks, which I’m excited about. I find myself taking notes like I would have for a class by my fave history professor in undergrad (shoutout J Brown - who also taught me Russian history), which is a lovely thing.

Putting the last 150 pages of WWI nurses on hold because this one feels right for ringing in the new year (though I wasn’t thinking about that at all when I bought it yesterday, lol). Starling House was one of my favorite reads last year, so I’m excited to go into a new year with this!

This is my 2nd year keeping notes on my year (I make a template in my notes app). I track things I watch, listen to, read, etc. + simple notes from the month like “lunch with Joe was fun!” & “sick on my birthday sucks.” I do my best (& miss things), but it’s so helpful and fun to review at year end.

In my ears right now… A friend recommend it with “you’re going to identify with the FMC’s challenges with social interactions”… and she was not wrong, lol. Emily is a bit more extreme than I am, but I have had many of the same thoughts about trying to get people to make sense and they just don’t.

Got this last year at a Friends of the Library sale. WWI novel about Australian sister nurses. The style is a little challenging for my concentration (and not just for the lack of quotation marks around dialogue) but worth it so far.
