dyke. Jew. lapsed academic philosopher. far, far too fond of epistolary novels.
My mother’s senior living facility has just sent out an email asking for family input on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur celebrations, which I translate partly as “we have no Jews in management and we don’t want to fuck up; please tell us what to do”, an approach more places could stand to adopt.
The sun charm in the upper left here; Jewish stuff (she says, gesturing expansively).
My Romancing the Vote cat trap with bonus coasters, courtesy of @slip-stitch.bsky.social! Eeeeeee!
Swag for @tjalexandernyc.bsky.social’s A GENTLEMAN’S GENTLEMAN and A LADY FOR ALL SEASONS. Buy the books; read the books; the books are good.
If you’re still checking the thread, did this one from mid-late May make it to QueerVC?
Thoughts on how to scoop ice cream without a dominant-hand opposable thumb? There’s a half-gallon of the good vanilla in my out-of-town father’s freezer he’s invited me to raid, but my hand has a thing and looks like this, and this is surely the sort of sadness the internet can help me fix.
PSA: if you take a respiratory symptom rapid test, always check to see what a negative result looks like! A line marked “C” may mean “control”, NOT Covid. The control line means the test worked, so you always need it there—it’s the other lines that show if you’re infected. It’s VERY shitty design.
So you know those people who can sleep anywhere? I've discovered that's me but for typing: after decades of academia + customer service I can type easily even with tefillin. Feels like both triumph and revenge: they tried to stifle me with a keyboard but I lived anyway. (pic of tefillin on not-me)
Looks like the one I have is 3/16” at the point where the medium bails get stuck.
You all have a support hashtag? Ok, somehow that makes me want to try this Dunnett thing again—that might be what I needed last time. Where should I start and how long before I too will need the hashtag? (Cat tax included as apology for jumping in)
Book rec via @feliciadavin.com: THE PERILOUS LIFE OF JADE YEO, by Zen Cho. Epistolary; so, so clever; so very satisfying. Top notch and a delight. www.homewardbooks.com/books/the-perilous-life-of-jade-yeo
This beauty has arrived from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. It’s huge, heavy, and even lovelier and more imposing than I’d realized, and I never want to take it off.
It's peak bloom so here's a map of every cherry tree on public property in DC. It's interactive and searchable and tells you what type each tree is. Again: it's a map of EVERY. SINGLE. cherry tree. (link doesn't show a preview, hence the non-clickable image) experience.arcgis.com/experience/9...
@peculiarityshop.bsky.social Just fyi, your choice to switch shipping carriers is definitely justified! (the jewelry itself arrived safely but it was a close thing; thumbs down for USPS handling lately)
Could I ask you to remind me what this one is? It’s here, it’s gorgeous, I love it, but my brain retains nothing about anything anymore.
My mikveh was yesterday afternoon and I start today as Rina Yehudit, or “a joyful Jew”.
I wish I was joking but the Starbucks ones do include actual pumpkin.
The bendy bit I completely forgot to mention is probably relevant too… ::facepalm:: The palm grip style is wide and flattened? Or is that something else again?
