This is not as good as the trilogy about his youth, but it’s still remarkably good (the recurring reports on visits to Berlin brothels, reflections on the prize of call girls, and inexplicable affairs with (very) young intellectual women (the man was in his 60s) notwithstanding).

Read the introduction to this yesterday and learned that the aging Machiavelli referred to himself as “historico, comico et tragico” which means “historian, humorist and tragedian”, but ALSO means “historic, comic and tragic”… 🤣/😭
