Aside from important environmental arguments, much also depends on dating of Deccan. The paper you discuss debates the placement of the K-Pg in the sequence. IMO nothing has bettered the U-Pb dates discussed by Schoene et al 2021 that shows an eruption pulse close to (U-Pb) or at (Ar/Ar) the K-Pg
