For Free RPG day, I'm just going to share a small table to randomly generate an idea or hook for a mission in an RPG in a modern setting. Check the ALT for plain text. #FreeRPGDay #TTRPG

A random table for a modern RPG to generate mission ideas. The table has 4 columns. The 4 columns are titled d10 (for the die to roll), objective, subject and despite. To create a mission idea roll three times to connect an objective to a subject and something standing in the way.

The ten entries in the objective column are:
Secretly retrieve, in safe and sound condition,...
Secretly retrieve, regardless of condition,...
Retrieve, in safe and sound condition,...
Retrieve, regardless of condition,...
Secretly destroy...
Destroy, by all means necessary,...
Protect from all harm or damage...
Protect from grievous harm or major damage...
Secretly transport...
Transport, by all means necessary,...

The ten entries in the subject column are:
...information…
...an item...
...a criminal person...
...a corporate employee...
...a number of citizens...
...a weird creature...
...an individual animal...
...a group of criminals or NoReg company...

The ten entries in the despite column are:
...how much time has passed.
...how little time is available.
...a criminal individual trying to interfere.
...a corporate employee trying to interfere.

...a group of corporates or a whole department is trying to interfere.
...an evil corporation tries to interfere.
...an underground organisation tries to interfere.

What is really funny or strange or... even uncanny for me is something different though. This is part of the cover page of my hobby WIP TTRPG with its placeholder for an illustration. The game is about a big city with a big triangular building at its centre and can also be pretty dark... 👀

Oh while „we“ (=me) are on the subject of old board games, I also recovered our family’s early 60s silver edition (Schmidt Spiele) of the German Monopoly, but unfortunately it’s missing the rules. The rest seems to be there (more or less, at least).

Easter has come around and lo and behold, now it’s mine (again)! It’s missing on die and the pens, but those aren’t essential anyway. It’s got hexes, d66 rolls, a currency system and two major phases of play. There’s so much going on!

That's a very nice and tidy shelf. I would definitely find sth. to here. Especially since it doesn't seem to have a single book with my small shelf in common... (not in picture: Cyberpunk 2013 box set and two box sets of the German Midgard RPG)

Bookshelf with a number of different RPG books, mostly from the 80s and 90s. For example Elfquest, Talislanta, Werewolf the Apocalypse and SLA Industries. The books are held up by two white astronaut figurines with mirrored helm visors.
