This answer from @kimchica.bsky.social is why I gave the episode the title that I did. What do y’all think Teacher Jenny was like?
During this week’s podcast episode @kimchica.bsky.social talked about how a Pax panel followed by lockdown lead to the first @wholesomegames.com Direct. Their next direct is Saturday :)
The June episode of The Honest Indies podcast is live. I got to chat with my friend @kimchica.bsky.social about all things @wholesomegames.com , pivoting from teaching to the games industry, how lock down played an important role in the first wholesome direct, dreams for the future, and being kind.
New episode goes up Monday. @monsoongames.bsky.social & I took a deep dive into Merry Crisis development, spending more time on game dev, & queer experiences in places that aren’t very accepting. June 1st ep with @kimchica.bsky.social covers the history and growth of @wholesomegames.com & more :)
There’s a new developer interview up on Patreon. I was lucky enough to chat with @thelittlecrumb.bsky.social about his background in games, developing The Little Crumb, his adorable cat, and when players can get their hands on the game for the first time.
Between 100%ing Dosa Divas and going to Strixhaven prerelease, it’s been a fun turn-based weekend.
I have a lot going on today Podcast w/ @suduwana.bsky.social chatting teaching, freelancing and Midautumn early access @imissmyfriends.bsky.social review Explainer about the review scale And I got to be the first guest on Your Friend Who Likes Games. And it’s my partner & I’s anniversary xoxo
Since last summer, I’ve been highly anticipating @imissmyfriends.bsky.social. Rich characters, a relatable story, and comfy apartment made my entire time with the extended demo memorable. New write up at: honestindies.substack.com/p/it-takes-a... More on YouTube
Over the weekend I put together another list of indies - my 20 favorites of the 2020’s. honestindies.substack.com/p/my-20-favo...
I thought that I’d use a couple of the biggest indies from 2025 & @katerblossom.bsky.social’s game of the year to highlight a different trio of indies for people to play: honestindies.substack.com/p/three-for-...
My last fun Honest Indies thing of the week. I got to chat with @monsoongames.bsky.social over social & email and came away with a wonderful blend of insightful and silly responses. Now I’m looking forward to both games that they’re working on even more and craving something caffeinated.
I got to start yesterday by launching my own podcast, then end it by guesting on @kimchica.bsky.social ‘s. In the first Jan. episode we each highlight 6 indies were looking forward to releasing this year and set the stage for this month’s game club game, Gas Station Story. youtu.be/Q0AKoR0hiI8?...
I’ve had it on my wishlist for a loooong time but there’s been so much announced and/or releasing lately that it had slipped my mind Looking forward to it. Congrats on being so close to release day :)
I binged Cabernet over the weekend and it was just as much of a “me game” as expected I loved it and can’t believe I waited this long to get to it.
This is the year when PC has officially dominated where I play games. I’ve still had a few reasons to boot up the PS4 or grab our Switch but they’ve been few & far between. Until 3yrs ago, I didn’t even own a PC.
I finally crossed Undusted Letters From The Past off of my 2025 backlog. I think I’m learning that I really enjoy clean ‘em ups (games where the primary mechanic is cleaning objects). Sad but beautiful narrative and tight controls. Loved it.
I beat Consume Me over the weekend. I loved it but the middle did lose me a bit. Glad that I got back to it because it ended strong and had maybe the best credits ever(?)
@dogwitchgame.bsky.social was the first game that I rolled credits on in the new apartment. A few hours in the demo prepped me to have a successful run by my 3rd attempt. Now I can unlock more bonkers items for increasingly broken builds :)
More games need to let me play as a frog who both rides/surfs on their weapon & beats the shit out of baddies with it
What a stellar time for very different roquelikes
Finally beat Hades II. Time to tackle October releases I’ve missed.
It feels like every week lately is a wild week in games, but this one is particularly big for my game interests. Monday @mycard.utustudios.com released in early access, yesterday @glowfroggames.bsky.social put out a demo and tomorrow Bye Sweet Carole & Absolum release. My backlog will have to wait
Then I immediately played a game about friendship and - with my ending at least - trans joy. Much needed this month.
Unintentionally played a game about social isolation shortly after moving 1,000 miles away from my friends 💔
I meant to add this a couple nights ago - I had a much needed break from stress + doomscrolling with this delightfully trans visual novel. It gave me slight Serre vibes
I’m a sucker for tournament arcs :) I don’t even care if they progress the plot or not. They’re almost always fun.
I finally had the time to beat Is This Seat Taken? in the middle of packing to move across the country. No PC for me for a month, so this was a wonderful note to end on. Perfect blend of clever & cute. Satisfying puzzles in silly situations. I loved it. Thanks again for the key @wholesomegames.com
Maybe the saddest game that I’ve played all year and one particular section was the scariest thing all year. The moment credits started, I ran to get tissues and then gave my partner a hug.
