I had an adult spotted towhee bring their fledgling to the yard a few years ago. The bird still visits intermittently and especially in spring. I live in oak woodland adjacent to chaparral and we get all the chaparral birds here.

Finally finished 50 Christmas cupcakes. Whew! Now for delivery. Then a good stiff drink and something on Netflix. Oh, and leftover meatloaf.
Made some fruit Christmas empanadas for a friend (while listening to the news) going through a hard time. Rhubarb and Cherry. More tomorrow; Apple and blackberry. Screw Trump.
Lost my 15 yo girl, Samantha, today. The kitty in the photo, Romy 17yo, moved on about four weeks ago. This is pretty emotionally, brutal. And a week after her loss, another 16yo, Galaxy packed it in. Geez.
So I made 40 cupcakes today for the neighbors with the Thanksgiving theme. I do the major holidays, the same way throughout the year. I worked on these often on for about a week and then bake them. Let them sit overnight covered and then frosted and decorated them. Entirely edible.
It’scraining, I’m baking (with an occasional trip out to the creek to make sure everything’s OK). My favorite time of year, my favorite weather. Fruit empanadas for my neighbors.
Holy shit! Eight dollars for 16 ounces of organic heavy whipping cream? Are they nuts? I’ve never seen anything like it! The holidays should be a real bankrupter this year!
We have one at a local lake and they are just incredible in terms of color. Non-native here, but gorgeous, nonetheless. I have not ever seen a F there.
this is Romy, my little cat with lymphoma. She was diagnosed about three weeks ago. I was in rescue for the better part of 45 years and retired from it 9 years ago. This is the first cat I have ever personally owned that has gotten cancer and this really sucks.
Not the greatest pic I've ever taken as it was super far away, but man, does this look comfy or what? Costa's Hummingbird nest in the skeleton of a Our Lord's Candle (Hesperoyucca whipplei). Here, this is a favorite nesting substrate. These can be very difficult to find as they are well camo'd.
