Actual look at my night of me trying to figure out if/how to meet Bill Cipher and go to Endor a few days before Star Wars Celebration next year, both of which are 9+ hours away one way from Celebration because California is really big and stupid

Today is my 6th anniversary of joining @thegeekywaffle.bsky.social, but this year feels a bit weird for me. Please keep supporting Candace and Arezou's work. They're doing amazing things over there.

Not only is June Pride Month, but it’s also my anniversary of joining The Geeky Waffle.
This year feels weird, because I haven’t really written much in the way of reviews. I haven’t done an interview in almost a year. I find myself in a strange place when it comes to journalism.
I feel on the edge on whether or not to call myself a “freelance journalist” or an “ex-journalist.” I still enjoy reviewing things. When I consume media, I feel that tick in my brain clocking what’s going well and what could be improved. However, when I try to sit and write, it’s a struggle.
Some of it is burnout. Not just from journalism but life as well. Between a physically demanding job and being a caregiver to two elderly parents, I find myself with very little energy to write. In fact, I haven’t said anything yet, but my stepmom has been in the hospital since Wednesday. She’s on the mend and came home today. But that’s been life. We were fine on Tuesday and dropped everything on Wednesday. It’s tough to get routine with that.
For the last few months, I have gotten real joy working on my novel, recently finishing draft 3. That has sucked up all my creative energy in a rewarding way. But in response, I haven’t crafted many articles for The Geeky Waffle.
Long story long, I’m not sure where I am with this part of myself. I love writing. I miss being a full-time journalist. I love being part of the Waffles. I love seeing Candace an Arezou thrive and succeed. I am proud of what these two women have built. I am humbled that they’ve let me come along on the journey, making two lifelong friends. This is an anniversary I value.
For now, I’m taking things a day at a time. We’ll see what the next year brings. Please continue to support The Geeky Waffle. Candace and Arezou are doing amazing things over there.
