So generally I wouldn't be surprised if the most questionable horses appear on superhero comics, because artists generally don't get into superhero comics to draw horses (or knight armor...), versus something like, Asterix and Obelix
I figure it's mainly that after the boom of cowboy comics, comic artists really had to prioritize drawing urban environment and vehicles, and after that the occasional pet animals, and horses fall into the camp of stuff you don't need to draw often AND having different anatomy than dogs.
