13 years ago today I made the first commit to the ESLint Git repo. It’s hard to believe that this project I cobbled together in my spare time over a couple of weeks is still going strong. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting over these years and the journey it’s been. A thread.
One of the things I enjoyed about Pocket was the "discover" pages. I always found interesting stuff to read. So, I built it for Bredbox using Astro, Gemma 4, Supabase, and Redis. Get your invite here: bredbox.app
I asked ChatGPT to make an updated logo for Bredbox. I described it as a "happy piece of toast." Here's the before and after. What do you think?
Doctor: Your LDL is high. I think it’s time for a statin. Me: I’d like to try adjusting my diet to first. Him: We can try but I don’t think it will come down enough. Me:
I unleashed Claude on my blog and told it to "make it prettier." Here's the result. (now live at humanwhocodes.com).
One thing I really enjoy about posting to social media with Claude is the positive reinforcement.
I'm generally pretty happy with my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Yoga bought several years ago, but periodically I'll get a dialog like this. It's "install now, we can't tell you if you'll need to reboot" with no option to set a convenient time to do the update. Awful UX.
Terms and Conditions are out of control. Just opened a pack of protein powder and found this. How can this be legal?
Here’s Bench clarifying that no one is getting refunds. Note that they shut down on December 27.
So now that Bench was acquired, we get a choice. Either opt-in to continue using Bench or opt-out and don't get any refund. This, after we were told our data would be available, for free, to download on December 30. Basically holding my data hostage.
Wow, this is unreal. My bookkeeper just shuts down effective immediately? They literally just charged me for the next 12 months. No mention of refunds anywhere.
It's pretty crazy just how correlated TypeScript, Babel, ESLint, and React are.
I can deal with one every once in a while. My Twitter notifications feed is 99% OF bots now, making it completely useless.

Seriously, how is QuickBooks the best we have for bookkeeping? My receipts aren't showing up, so I click on the Give Feedback button and get an empty dialog. 🤦♂️
Guys, something's wrong with my GitHub notifications page. I've never seen it like this before.
Hey GitHub, it would help if you'd tell me what's actually wrong with the image so I don't have to guess.
When GitHub shutoff PayPal for GitHub Sponsors, I lost over 80% of my monthly sponsorships and they never recovered. As an independent software developer, this really stings. I could use your help bouncing back: https://github.com/sponsors/nzakas
