One of the games biggest themes is about loss of control:

- Becoming a beast and no longer having control over yourself
- The unfortunate people being experimented on in the research hall and other areas and being turned into beings like the celestial emissary or living failures and more
- A Great One “blessing” someone’s womb with their child
- The Hunt and different nightmares people are stuck and tormented in.

I could go on and on.

“Does anyone else ever feel like the music in Dark Souls 3 is more discernibly synthesized instead of orchestra compared to DS1 and DS2? This doesn’t apply to all its songs of course, but when you can hear it, oh boy can you hear it. Vordt’s theme is probably the biggest offender, cuz that brass is just really 😬
Sucks too because Vordt’s theme is actually great, it just really needed the full orchestral treatment to truly shine.”

“It's not really my thing either for the most part, but some VR games are just so cool to me that I have to try them out.
I feel like if they ever did do something like that, doing some kind of reimagining of King's Field 1 (Japan) would be a great way to try out the concept of a VR KF game, given it's smaller scope as a game.
So they could really focus on how player and enemy combat would feel.”

“Dark Souls was originally going to be a Demon’s Souls sequel, but I think they were both far better off that Dark Souls went on to only be a spiritual successor.

In any case I do think the Dark Souls series has the interesting opportunity among Fromsoft’s other Soulsborne games to be able to have more direct conversations with eachother for better and for worse.”

“The Pursuer is such a tense early game fight, especially when paired with the more lowkey but tense music for the fight.

Also I just love how over the top they are:

“I like the chaos of the Skeleton Lords fight and the music (oh my god the music is great), but I do wish it had a bit more going on. Neat setpiece at the very least. Executioner’s Chariot is pretty underrated tbh. The mad rush to kill the skeletons and drop the gate and then the frantic and claustrophobic fight against the horse itself. The music is also pretty damn underrated as well.”

Okay, so apparently he’s just always had the deformed tentacled lower half, it’s hard to see in the intro but they are there as well too. It cannot be overstated how much the disparity aspect of the First Flame screwed him over.

Aldia did not drop some some of the sickest dialogue in gaming about the broken and illusory state of the world that he and everyone else is trapped in and then insistently ask you about why you are doing what you are doing and encouraging you to think for yourself and choose a path for yourself because it’s what YOU wanted to do and not because someone else told you to, only for some schmuck to say “Duuur, these games have no storyyyy”

100%, it’s a big part of why their stories are so engaging, since if you want to get a better understanding of the story, then the game asks you to take the initiative and basically become a detective, scholar, archaeologist, etc-
