Brent council – waiting list 33,263 as of March 2024 — approved just 31 social rent homes in the second half of 2024. Local Labour MP @BarryGardiner said councils ‘need to be much tougher and insist on getting value for the people they represent’.
Luton council, with a waiting list of 11,426, approved 34 homes — none for social rent. Housing chief Rob Roche told us the council was working to ‘broaden the range of suitable and affordable homes available’, but added: ‘This is a national issue.’
Sandwell council has a waiting list of 15,004 households — yet approved ZERO homes for social rent between July and December 2024. West Midlands mayor @RichParkerLab: ‘For too many years, there hasn’t been nearly enough investment in social housing.’
