You could easily fill a couple hours of a philosophy of language course just discussing what went wrong here. (Welch does not appear to be antisemitic and *does* appear to have taken a number of positions that seem pretty cool, even if it appears that someone at her campaign is bad at their job.)

Does anyone else find this kind of speculative, hyperreal colorization and "enhancement" of historical photos of genocide victims absolutely ghoulish, or is my "this is a gross offense against history, photography, and the memory of the dead" reaction out-of-line?

“I was diagnosed with autism when I was a kid, but that was a misdiagnosis and I was then diagnosed with ADHD. But just recently I went to a different psychologist and she diagnosed me with Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and my autism diagnosis and my ADHD diagnosis were both wrong.”

The young woman I was speaking to was 19 years old, and she had already received three life-defining diagnoses. Was she mature enough to understand the implications of this? I doubt it. And yet this is happening across the world at an alarming rate. Not only are diagnoses being thrown around with abandon, but psychologists are overruling each other’s diagnoses, leaving patients to wonder which doctor has it right.

But it is the Millennial mantra—I am the captain of my ship, the author of my life, the protagonist of reality. Incidentally, this is the same logic that uncritically affirms young children’s assertions that they are the opposite sex. That position is also part of the progressive package endorsed by West, despite her writing this about GLP-1 prescriptions for adolescents: “Wegovy has been approved for children as young as twelve, when we don’t even know the long-term physical effects, let alone the mental ones.” Wow, sounds like we should be very careful about powerful, life-altering drugs and probably not accuse anyone who has questions about them of secretly wanting chubby kids to die.
