A storytime event featuring picture books about LGBTQ topics was held on the 21st at the Toyota City Central Library in Nishimachi. Michele X, wife of the U.S. Principal Officer in Nagoya, and a library staff member took turns reading the story in English and Japanese to an audience of about 20 people, including parents and children. She expressed her hope that the event would serve as an opportunity for parents and children to think about LGBTQ issues together.
The book featured in the reading was *And Tango Makes Three* (Japanese title: *Tantan Tango wa Papa Futari*), which tells the true story of a male penguin couple at a U.S. zoo that received an egg and raised a chick.
The event was organized by Toyota City and the local LGBTQ support group "Team S@Toyota." Shin Nishio, a high school teacher from Miyoshi-ga-oka in Miyoshi City who attended with his three-year-old eldest son, said, "I want my child to grow up accepting as a matter of course that there are diverse ways of thinking in society."
