Race weather (wx) forecasts for IndyCar
Rain still in play for Sunday…adj. timing towards midday/afternoon, but would say timing still in flux…system doesn’t really exist just yet but will be able to track it into western Great Lakes Fri-Sat and gain better idea of timing/impacts as we get closer to Sunday #IndyCar
Initial planning forecast for Markham Ontario: mid-70s, chance rain on Sunday…too far out for impacts/timing of that potential system, but will refine through week #IndyCar
Not much to add to the forecast from what’s been previously discussed..persistent northwesterly winds will work to continue clearing out Portland air while keeping ongoing smoke plumes directed east. Today should be warmest day of weekend, near 90° #PortlandGP #IndyCar
Can pick out the wildfire smoke over Portland today in satellite imagery…should start clearing out late Thursday with wind shift…and improve into weekend. Otherwise, some minor temp tweaks but the forecast still looks good overall. #PortlandGP #IndyCar
Initial #PortlandGP forecast: Rough start to the week for Portland area…air quality issues due to wildfire smoke + temps climbing to triple digits by Wed…but then pattern shifts after mid-week…so smoke should clear out and temps dropping into the weekend
Weekend IMS forecast for new chassis testing…presumably, so long as rain is not too extensive and no lightning…could still get laps in on road course if wet
Noon CT/1pm ET weather check: radar quiet..still slight chance pop-up storm thru afternoon. Current temp 88°/heat index 96°…think we’ll get to 92-94° range during race, so if humidity levels hold steady as they are now that comes out to 102-105° heat index
The joy of pop-up storms: watch this cell skirt…just barely…by the speedway and then re-expand after it passes. Sprinkles only at the track.
Avoided pop-ups storms yesterday (closest shower was about 8 mi)…but feel today will be more active, so more challenging odds to escape unscathed. Temps in low 90s/heat index 100+ #IndyCar
Not much to update on this one. Some patchy fog/mist and maybe stray shower in morning..then will have to monitor for hit/miss type pop-up storms in PM. Highs in low-90s..heat index/‘feels like’ in 100-105 range.
Initial look at #MusicCityGP weather: another hot/humid weekend with slight chance afternoon/evening shower.
At least they’re centered over Spaceship Earth…my shot from MK yesterday and they were def right of center over Cindy’s house 😂
Pre-race radar: looks ok with cells passing to the north of #MidOhio, chance we get precip passing through during race, but the better chances fall late afternoon/evening as approaching system gets closer
Yeah…that was my concern…no direct rain/storm impact…but lightning strikes still close enough as it passes south. I think once this one gets by and 30 min clock expires, looks good
It’s really the lightning delay clock at work right now (30 min after last strike)…so there’s a gap to work with now if it’s expiring (not sure where it’s at)…my next concern would be area upstream which is also active as far as lightning goes…so long as it passes far enough south should be gtg soon
“Cooler” today at #MidOhio. Chance storms mainly late afternoon-early evening. (Note 2:35 pm should read quals not a second practice 2 in the graphic…sloppy cut and paste)
Still looks good to finish dry as northern edge of rain continues to pass south #RoadAmerica #IndyCar
Current look at #RoadAmerica weather..still watching system off to southwest. Think rain passes south today and it’s a dry race, but will be close enough to warrant watching radar during day. Winds calm this morning but will be east-southeasterly later..and lighter than last 2 days #IndyCar
Today’s #RoadAmerica conditions: looks like any stray shower chances remain north today…gusty NW’erly winds continue, should drop off by early PM. Sunday’s system continues to track south, with best rain chances closer to IL/WI border…so dry race tomorrow appears most likely at this point #IndyCar
#RoadAmerica forecast update: Fri good…a few showers may pass thru in the overnight Fri-Sat…then Sat is fine w/just a very slight chance for isolated shower. Sunday’s system looks like it may pass to the south..so will keep mention of shower in forecast for now..but know that it’s trending drier.
Wed #RoadAmerica forecast update: still dry Fri..slight shower chance Sat..then stronger system approaches for Sun. Still some uncertainty on timing/location of that system but for now would call it increasing rain chances thru Sun afternoon. Temps 50s/70s. #IndyCar
First look at #RoadAmerica forecast: series of systems flow thru this week..so still some uncertainty on timing/impacts by the time we get to Sunday..but for now, chance showers/storms. Temps much better than last year! #IndyCar
Like I can’t even when the rain has right angles 😆
Current radar…now into portion of the forecast where activity is..well..active…green flag moved up to 9:01 ET. Assuming no additional pop-ups, area to south will be an issue in about 2 hours if it holds up
Forecast looks better than it did earlier this week…but still a rain threat this evening so will need to keep an eye on radar and need a bit of luck with where cells form/track #IndyCar
Today’s conditions at WWT Raceway: would keep an eye on radar during peak afternoon heating..rest of day should be quiet. Still expecting increasing rain chances Sunday..best case is bulk of activity holds further west..but too close to call so likely an evening of radar watching coming #IndyCar
Latest forecast update: Sat looks better than it did a few days ago…storm chances mainly pop-ups late afternoon-sunset. Sunday still the more active of the two days…so will con’t to refine timing. Bumped temps Sat with less clouds/precip expected. #IndyCar
