This is an awesome surprise! Foolish Mortals has been shortlisted for Physical Release of the Year in the @debugmag.com Indie Game Awards @debugawards.com! I really packed as much into that box as I could, so it's lovely to see it get spotlighted!

Professional VA doesn't even need to be that expensive. We voiced 8,000 lines of dialogue in our debut game with 13 voice actors, and did so as an actual SAG-AFTRA project. SAG were really easy to work with, and have a cost tier that understands indie game budgets. It was worth it.

We made one! It’s even available as DLC. The reviewer just didn’t want to listen to evidence.

Yeah, you need to click on this to see that the developer has left a reply. People are going to see accusations of AI without any realisation that I've refuted them. Fortunately the reviewer's edit does imply they're responding to me, so hopefully people will click it to try to find more.

Fundamentally, calling out undeclared use of AI is great, but consider you might be mistaken, and give the artist a chance to evidence that they used their skill and creativity. Otherwise you are going to be harming the very same artists you supposedly claim to be championing.

As small indie developers we're battling the Steam algorithm to get eyes on our game, and every negative reviews takes 20 positive reviews to cancel out. Take a moment to leave a positive review on the indie Steam games you've played. It helps us indie devs MASSIVELY.

One review shouldn't affect us, but the number of "people who found this review helpful" is going up because people assume it's true. And we're not the only ones! There are many other devs being falsely accused of using AI, who actually put the work in. redd.it/28gpzg

To show how much we believe in real people, I'll share this too: we worked with 12 incredible voice actors, going the extra expense of making this a SAG project to ensure fair pay, healthcare, etc. Our contracts included a clause that the recordings *would never be used for AI*.

My wife & I spent years on this project, pouring passion and hard work into a childhood dream, working with (*and paying*) incredible artists that I trust and admire completely. A lot went into this!

I responded, but Steam doesn't alert the reviewer to edits, only to the original response. I have no idea if they will ever see what I added, or take me up on my offer to show them the layered PSP files, or any other evidence they could need.

The "AI hands" are simply due to a loose, painterly style. These are meant to be oil paintings with a brushstroke texture on top, on screen for seconds. Entirely different to AI's issues with missing fingers, added fingers, bulges, etc. (Concept art by www.artstation.com/julienvandois)

Most conclusively? The 40+ photoshop files Alejandra sent me are all FULLY LAYERED as you can see in this image I've separated out. You can even see Alejandra's leftover brushstrokes that would have been hidden behind the layers above them.

The problem with that? Alejandra drew these in 2021, before almost all AI image generators were a thing. Alejandra provided numerous line-drawings and redrafts specifically responding to my sketches and art direction, that simply could not be done with AI.

And then? "I feel sorry, but you have been scammed." They say the flashback hands PROVE they're AI! Apparently Alejandra Pinal Negrete scammed us!!
