this book had some slow chapters, but also some beautifully devastating chapters. contained the most convincing anti-natalist argument I’ve ever heard, but the ending somehow managed to challenge it in an even deeper way. also 10/10 asexual representation #booksky

ok this book was totally fine but I need to vent about something so spoiler alert for the replies lol #booksky
this turned out to be a really solid and adventurous thriller. it subtly explored themes around how intimacy is experienced by men and women as well as power dynamics in relationships. all while keeping the plot moving at a pretty fast pace! #booksky
and this is like 1/3 of the beads. literal treasure chests!!!!! and we didn’t even get through everything
this is just like 1/2 of the amethysts she got. and that’s just the amethysts!!!!!!
this was overall such a slowwwww read. the relationship between selin and ivan was cute and those parts of the book were fun, but perhaps I’m not enough of a linguistics nerd to fully appreciate the rest of it #booksky

this book has some highlights for sure (especially the careful attention she gives to children as an oppressed class), but I’m sorry to say this mostly bored me. too many platitudes and vague anecdotes, not enough deep insights that gave me a new perspective I hadn’t thought of before #booksky
