Mark Carney vs Donald Trump. Donald Trump can fake a lot of things but he can't fake competence. Canada is having the last laugh. 🍁 #CanadaStrong
Hello from Canada to our American neighbours. Nice evening for a relaxing paddle on the lake up here in Canada, just minding my own business. O' Canadaaaaa... 🍁
CHANGE begins locally. An angry town can replace a complacent and/or complicit mayor and council members. A few angry towns can influence a city. Empowered cities can influence a state and 25 states can CHANGE a country. And if one man in Selma can change a country, millions of you can too.
Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square is the unexpected gem of this #FIFAWorldCup. ⚽️
#Ronaldo and the Portuguese Selecção arriving in #Toronto. 🇵🇹 I just happened to be walking out of my condo to walk my dog and my national team is driving by. What are the odds?! Oh carálho! #WorldCup2026
I’m sure you’re prepared to fight this but it’s clear they’re just going to cover the signage with scaffolding tonight to stall for time. They installed the signage with cherry pickers, they didn’t need scaffolding.
They used cherry pickers to install the Donald Trump letters on the Kennedy Center, they don’t need scaffolding to remove them. I’m convinced the scaffolding is to cover the sign and leave it up while they fight this in court
It's 2 hours to midnight. They've been putting up the scaffolding all day, there's no way they're removing The Donald Trump letters in time to follow the court order. They're going to cover it up and claim the sign isn't visible to stall for time. #KennedyCenter LIVE: www.youtube.com/live/aAhm880...
Hey, they got rid of all the icons in the menus? Did you ask them why? 🤔
My Toronto Liberal MP @runchinguyenrun.bsky.social has gotten an earful from me on her disingenuous boilerpoint answer to her constituents angry about Doug Ford stealing our waterfront and stealing our voice so he can turn Billy Bishop into a major airport. #NoJetsTO docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Not everything. It won't be called "BMO Field" for the World Cup. Repeatedly calling it "BMO" when the city scrubbed that name from tickets, maps, transit, signs, social, comms and the stadium itself, The Star missed a chance to inform people to avoid mistakes. It'll be called "Toronto Stadium".
Let’s put it this way. Soon after the demolition request was denied, a wall collapsed. After months of appeals the city denied it again, forcing the owner to rebuild the wall and restore the heritage building, the entire building burned down. I’ll let you decide the odds of those coincidences.
As a dog owner whose always leashed dog has repeatedly been attacked or threatened by off leash dogs, thank you for this column. Beware: This pitbull is often off leash in front of Sick Kids Hospital (!!!) and the owner is exactly as you'd imagine him to be.
A larger property needs to be assembled with the buildings to the south — or better, the entire city block, including The Tenor should be razed to build a mixed use city block split between institutional (Toronto Met), entertainment (Cineplex) and residential. Bonus if they rebuild The Empress.
Oh, there's more... coincidentally, Salad King used to be located on this site at the old Empress Hotel which after demolition permits were denied by the City, the heritage building burned down one night. The owner of the property has since been repeatedly denied building permits for a condo.
Carney is damaging his brand in Toronto. Downtown Toronto across the entire lake front to the suburbs delivered a unanimous sweep of MPs for the Liberals. They're all suspiciously tightlipped. I was 110% pro-Carney, but he's quickly soured on me after this. We won't forget.
The look on the faces of Artemis II crew after traveling 695,081 miles through a literal vacuum, only to return to Earth and find themselves standing next to the only thing in the Universe with a lower density than deep space: the void inside Trump's head. ✨🧠💨
If you had told someone 30 years ago that this is the American President in 2026, they wouldn't ask how he got elected, they'd ask how the United States lost the war and which country installed the dictator.
With #Toronto changing so rapidly, some of it unrecognizable, the CN Tower has remained the one constant that I can look up to and whisper to myself: “oh, there you are, Toronto.”
Loud SPEAKERPHONE conversation on a packed Dufferin 29 bus (IYKYK). Unprompted, bus driver pulls over and stands there looking at her. Points at the door. She gets off, people clap. A #Toronto Heritage Moment® I think I just found this hero on Reddit! @ttchelps.bsky.social give this man a raise!!!
Iowa farmers hit hard by Trump’s Iran War and Tariffs. Rural Iowa voted 70/30 Trump v. Harris in 2024. I wonder if they have any leopards on those farms.
This is the end for #Toronto 's McLaughlin Planetarium. Long shuttered, it is now being demolished. Shedding a tear for this childhood landmark for many of us 70s and 80s kids.
Trump sycophants well never learn that Trump demands loyalty, but feels no obligation to loyalty in return. He will stab them in the back the minute he alone benefits from it. MAGATs are expendable. I look forward to Pam Bondi answering for her crimes.
Trump relieved sanctions on Iranian oil to fix his mistake, paying Iran 10X what MAGA complained Obama returned in exchange for nuclear concessions. Iran is getting more for closing the Strait of Hormuz and attacking its neighbours, than it got for giving up its nuclear program. Art of the Deal. 🙄
I look forward to seeing this view again. Today, those cast iron gates are gone, replaced by a green construction tent and a muddy path.
BILLIONS of dollars for a convention centre on an artificial island. A BILLION dollars to accommodate a private spa. A BILLION dollars to move the Science Centre. BILLIONS (over $100B) for an underground highway under the 401. "We gotta tighten our belts folks" — Doug Ford #ONpoli
