These programs also prevent the transmission of STDs. That’s also good. What do the evangelical people behind this want? Abstinence. And bad information. And keeping yourself pure. No birth control. And gentlemen, don’t even think about masturbation. Birth control and masturbation are harmful.

Applicants must provide separate modules on male and female reproductive health. Young women should recognize “ovulation as the central event and primary indicator of hormonal health and fertility.” Although gynecologists often prescribe birth control pills to treat irregular cycles and extreme menstrual pain, courses must include “an overview of approaches to managing menstrual health concerns, including the advantages and disadvantages of ovarian suppression.”

Body literacy courses for boys should include strategies for managing “spontaneous arousal in ways that support self-regulation, health and future fertility.” And they should address “how repeated or artificially stimulated arousal may affect neural development and behavior over time.”

Update. One hatchling left in the nest this morning. Pictured. Unfortunately, found one dead on the patio as well (not pictured). Unsure on the status of the other two. Hoping to see the last one leave the nest as a fledgling soon. Probably will miss it happening.

Great program for safer streets. It is a rare day that I don’t have to leave the bike lane and merge into traffic because someone is blocking the bike lane. My experience mirrors the numbers below, with Amazon being the worst. Add in landscaping trucks for me. Improve safety and transit speed. 1/

Update. I have seen the adults flying into and out of the planter with the nest, feeding the babies. I couldn’t catch that on video this morning. But here is a video of one adult foraging in the grass and moss that is our backyard.

Climate change? The @nytimes.com has never heard of it. Two articles together in my app on weather events — fires leading to smoke and flooding in Texas. The NY Times doesn’t mention climate change in either. There’s a link to something related to climate change in the smoke story. 1/3

Update! Hatchlings. We have little juncos in the nest. Blurry photo because I am trying to limit how much I disturb the adults. But I saw them moving, and the parents were chirping, so everyone is fine.

Started cleaning out my lab today. Making the space available for one of my new colleagues who is starting in the fall. Since I’m retiring at the end of next year, I don’t need the space. The habits of a pack rat. I have cassette tapes from both my masters and dissertation. Yep. Over 40 years!

Discovered that Juncos have built a nest in one of the planters on our back patio. Angie flushed the mom while deadheading flowers. I took a quick picture of the little nest. The birds came back. Mom snuck in and dad hung out on top. Gestation is reported as 11-12 days. Expect more later.

Pulling the plants back to discover the nest. There are four tiny eggs in there. Blue eggs with brown spots. Hiding under the plants.

3 to 10 seconds Is my life & safety worth 3-10 seconds added to your driving time? That’s the typical amount of time a driver saves when they try to zip around me as I bike on city streets. The speed limit is usually 25 on a street without a bike lane. There are constant stop signs and lights. 1/

And it is important to note it is the conservatives on the court working overtime to deny that the statements and actions of Trump and his administration are overtly racist. Justice Kagan clearly dissents, quotes Trump, and states this is racism. Democrats must address court reform.

Antheraea polyphemus, the Polyphemus moth, is a North American member of the family Saturniidae, the giant silk moths. It is a tan-colored moth, with an average wingspan of 15 cm (6 in). The most noticeable feature of the moth is the large, purplish eyespot on each hindwing; its name is from the Greek myth of the cyclops Polyphemus. The species, first described by Pieter Cramer in 1776, is widespread in continental North America, with local populations found throughout subarctic Canada and in all of the United States except Arizona and Nevada.
