Maybe Littlefoot losing his Mom is important because all children feel lost and sad sometimes! Maybe some kids grow up without a parent and want to know they aren't alone and that they can still move forwards!
So much 'cozy' media mimics the aesthetics of old children's media, while avoiding the sad or uncomfortable parts. Those parts of kid's stories are there on purpose, to teach them about the hard parts of life! It's like an overbred dog! More childish than things intended for actual children!
I fucking love Eizouken! It might be my favorite depiction of what it's like to be a creative in any collaborative artform. The whole show radiates pure warmth of both love and commiseration for how hard it all is, yet we just can't stop. Also, every project needs a Kanamori.
My main experience is with the mecha genre (Mechwarrior, Steel Battalion, etc…) so YMMV. 1) Compelling fantasy of operating the vehicle/general verisimilitude 2) Feeling growth as you master this complex apparatus 3) Controls that are optimized for feeling satisfying over being quick
