I find it odd but not objectionable. there's nuance. Im not a merch guy myself but if it's the best way to get funding for animation then it makes sense to do it the way glitch does (do a pilot ep, have some merch ready, see how it goes, crunch some numbers and continue from there). It's a weird time to be in animation because it used to be mostly very straightforward and now it isn't. I understand why merch works better than other methods of funding shows, but it is unusual, from the perspective of a consumer, to be sold shirts and figures for a show with 1 or no episodes and technically no guarantee that it'll continue, especially if you're not tuned in to how merch or shows are made. kickstarters are also very weird conceptually, but since they're more explicitly about the funding process or even framed around charity, it seems like people scrutinize them less than they used to (unless backer rewards aren't met or the project itself fizzles out with no updates). the point of this is to have a conversation and have fun posting

They have this whole conversation about being hamstrung by their superiors for trying to work outside the system to save characters Kit feels personally attached to and that the system otherwise fails. it doesn't really go anywhere for the rest of the episode but whatever. welcome back jimmy mcnulty
