today is july 5
and who wants to piss on fireworks
but the declaration of independence is a crock
I mean, it is a wonderful idea and all, but the US
was founded on a genocide and slavery
and is steeped in blood and race and the opaque manaouvering of capital
through the murk of private interests
as Tom Paine pointed out
Jefferson owned slaves
The US worked with royalist France to embargo and frustrate the Haitian revolt
And the US grew fat on the export of torture
Peddled fascism through entire continents long before it finally and explicitly took domestic root

And these interests coalesced non incidentally in the Fortune 5

The history is right there

World's wealthiest man dies, death triggers empire ending civil war.

Marcus Licinius Crassus, Rome’s wealthiest man and a member of the First Triumvirate, died in June 53 BCE at the Battle of Carrhae in modern-day Turkey. He was killed during a violent scuffle while attempting to negotiate a truce with the Parthian general Surena, following the catastrophic defeat of his seven legions by Parthian cavalry.

According to Roman tradition and accounts by historians like Cassius Dio and Plutarch, the Parthians mocked Crassus's notorious greed by pouring molten gold down his throat after his death. His severed head was reportedly sent to the Parthian King Orodes II, where it was allegedly used as a stage prop during a performance of Euripides' The Bacchae. While the exact manner of his death varies in historical sources, it is universally agreed that he died in captivity, an event that shattered the First Triumvirate and set the stage for the civil wars that ended the Roman Republic

When you stand back and look at the numbers, two things are clear. One is that Plaid’s mandate in Wales is actually bigger than Starmer’s in the UK: Plaid won 35.4% of the vote in the Welsh election, while Starmer’s Labour picked up 33.7% of the general election vote in 2024. The second point is that electoral systems really matter: remember, Starmer’s vote share gave his party a crazy 63% of the seats in Westminster, thanks to first past the post. Under Wales’s more proportional system, Plaid got a much more reasonable – and democratically defensible – 45% of the seats.
