Ok, I need an explanation here, because the photo of the alleged assailant and the artist sketch are VERY different. Not suggesting they aren’t the same guy, but I do have a lot of questions about the nature of the photo circulating compared to what is the more contemporaneous image.

Watched episodes of Mysterious Cities of Gold with my daughter, enjoying the adventure story and the documentary -like bits at the end of each episode (maybe enjoying less one or two, erm, arguably racist character drawings 🤦🏼‍♂️). Fun nostalgia trip, but seriously think someone should remake as a film.

The Tasmania reference relates to provisions of the Evidence Act 2001 (Tas), specifically s127B Communication to counsellor. I’ve screen shot 127B (with alt text). Sure enough, it does describe protection for victims in relation to ‘counselling communication’. So why am I worried? 4/

127B. Communication to counsellor
(1) In this section –
counselling communication means a communication made before, on or after the commencement of this Act in circumstances that give rise to a reasonable expectation of confidentiality or a duty of confidentiality if the communication is made –
(a) by a victim of a sexual offence to a counsellor in the course of counselling or treatment of the victim by the counsellor for any emotional or psychological harm suffered in connection with the offence; or
(b) to, or in relation to, that victim for the purposes of that counselling or treatment;
counsellor means a person –
(a) whose profession or work consists of or includes the provision of psychiatric or psychological therapy to victims of sexual offences; or
(b) who provides, for fee or other reward or on a voluntary basis, psychiatric or psychological therapy to victims of sexual offences for or at the direction of a body or organisation that provides such therapy to such victims;
victim includes alleged victim.
(2) For the purposes of the definition of "counselling communication", in determining whether a communication was made in circumstances that gave rise to a reasonable expectation of confidentiality or a duty of confidentiality it does not matter that the communication was made in the presence of a third party if the third party's presence was necessary to facilitate communication or further the counselling process.
(3) A counselling communication must not be disclosed in any criminal proceedings unless the victim has consented to the disclosure.
(4) A person must not be required, in or in connection with any criminal proceedings, to produce a document that records a counselling communication unless the victim has consented to the production of the document.
(5) Evidence of a counselling communication must not be adduced or admitted in any criminal proceedings unless the victim has consented to the adducing or admission of the evidence.

My letter to my Federal MP, expressing my disgust at Australia’s support for the US/Israel. ‘No matter how much you try to hold back, pouring less than a measure for depravity and moral debasement always turns into a full one, because the depraved put no stopper on their bottle of poison.’ #auspol

I am writing to express my very real disgust and anger at the comments and actions of President Donald Trump in the context of the US/Israel illegal war against Iran, and Australia's continued engagement in the conflict. In particular, I draw attention to Trump's most recent comments that 'a whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again' and the reality that the US is freely committing or activey considering acts of genocide and other war crimes.

Since Trump made his comments on Truth Social, reports have surfaced that a ceasefire may be in the works, which suggests that Trump's comments may have been a bluff based on anticipation of that development. This speaks well to his ability to manipulate through falsehood, but it does not neutralise the significance or danger posed by the actions of either the US or Israel. Indeed, the conflicting narratives about this ceasefire suggest it is fleeting hope, rather than substantive progress.

The impact of the illegal war by the US/Israel has had enormous ramifications, including the high loss of civilian life, the spread of conflict in the area (including Israel's illegal invasion of Lebanon) and the impact on trade (most notably, the rising cost of petrol). It has also undoubtedly set back the efforts of the Iranian people to engage in meaningful reform and political change in their country. There was a hope for democratic progress, but the US & Israel crushed it.

Compounding these ramifications, the Australian Government appears to have embedded itself within military operations in the area. The pretext has been a variety of reasons that include security for the region, mitigating the impact on fuel prices, and resolving trade movement through the strait of Hormuz.

The critical problem here is that all the problems associated with his crisis did not happen out of nowhere. Every single one can be attributed to the unprovoked actions of the US and Israel, who now clearly pose the greatest risk to security in the region and, by extension, the world. It is the height of stupidity that Australia would allow itself to be so enmeshed in this exercise of brutality, especially as the transparent motivation for Trump appears to be the intense scrutiny on (what little remains of) his moral character arising from the Epstein files.

I see no evidence that the Australia Government has adequately addressed the fact that the SOLE CAUSE of this conflict lies with the US and Israel; that every ramification is due to their actions; that their behaviour is engineered by, at best, a far-right ideology that operates with complete indifference to the worth of human life.

It matters little that our contribution in military terms is peripheral (if I am using the most generous interpretation). What matters is that we have undertaken to side with the aggressor, and for no better reason than a half-witted effort to somehow appease this tyrant king in the White House and avoid his wrath.

History tells a sad story of how appeasement makes the aggressor more aggressive. A lack of full throated support for Trump is not an adequate step in countering the reality that Australia, even with the most basic military assistance, is still aiding a fascist regime that is willing to consider the eradication of 90 million in the pursuit of its goals (and again I point out the fact that the primary goal was to draw attention away from the distinct possibility that the President of the United States is a child sex abuser and trafficker).

I have seen the Prime Minister's comments from today. They are typically diffident and equivocal. I also note that the initial reaction of Ministers was apparent disregard - (quoting Minister King) 'It's important to not go down the rabbit hole of commenting on every comment that comes out from governments from other nations, and so I'm not going to engage in that this morning.' A memo to Minister King; it's not a rabbit hole, it's an abyss and we're already teetering on the edge.

Even the most meagre criticism is open to accusations of hypocrisy, if Australia continues to engage in military support for the US and Israel. It is delusional to think that we are doing anything less, or making any kind of positive contribution.

No matter how much you try to hold back, pouring less than a measure for depravity and moral debasement always turns into a full one, because the depraved put no stopper on their bottle of poison. There comes a point where their savagery is endless and without limit, unless all their capacity is shattered. Anthony Albanese might embrace the conceit that he is keeping Trump at arm's length. The reality is that he is shackling this nation hand-in-hand with madness.

The price to be paid for supporting Trump will always be higher than the price of opposing him. Always. The longer it takes to produce outright opposition to his perverse regime, the greater the cost.

I expect nothing less than the complete cessation of any military assistance to the US and Israel (if we support one, we support the other too), and a review of every measure of military cooperation - potential or realised - we have (and yes, that includes AUKUS).

Decoupling from the US might be as painful in political terms as extracting oneself from a bear trap (which we voluntarily stepped in for some reason), but better that than bleeding to a slow death. Australia's interests cannot be served by surrendering to this despotic atrocity in Washington.

Australia's security might be vulnerable without the US, but as it stands now and as long as any MAGA philosophy warps the fabric of its governance, our fate is sealed. This is an existential question to which there is only one right answer.

I support no political party that reduces us to timidity and cowardice, and no government can ever have a mandate to surrender our fate to fascism. I'd rather Australia took its chances alone than sacrifice its entire moral reasoning, integrity and existence, because that is the price this devil will demand.

WTAF? This is so not okay. I have reservations about my taxes being used on any Australian military endeavour, but I take ultimate umbrage that we are bankrolling the US armed forces. How can there be democratic oversight of Australian military forces if they answer solely to a foreign power? 🤷🏻‍♂️

While Australians hold these positions they wear the Australian uniform, but they command American personnel and are treated as Americans. Indeed, information provided to them is sometimes done so on the basis of it not being passed on to the Australian Government, and that’s OK.

The Australian Human Rights Commission just released its new Strategic Plan and it reads like a political manifesto.
This taxpayer-funded body declares that colonisers committed ‘genocidal acts’, and that indigenous sovereignty co-exists alongside Australian sovereignty.
These are not established legal facts.
No court has determined them.
The Australian Parliament has not legislated them.
A body entrusted with shaping the national conversation on human rights must approach its work with impartiality.
It must not be ideologically pre-committed before that work even begins.
I will be demanding answers at senate estimates.
