Rereading Heroes Return era Thor. Klaus Janson inks JRJR in such a specifically of its time way that I wish I could put my finger on. Reminds me of Ladrönn on Cable in its mashup of square-jawed Kirby action excess but with really slight silhouettes. It’s a very approach-ably human take on divinity.

I’m worried you might have missed the worst one in recent memory.

What If? has a well earned reputation for bummer reimaginings but reading it now, boy, it’s hard not to see how Kirkman, Ennis, Millar, and so many more were influenced by this stuff. Volume 1 #27 has some of the most brutal mutant violence this side of Ultimatum.
