Yes, Trump is unpopular - he has, after all, lost a war, raised inflation, & seem completely unfit for office. Yet, if you compare his approval ratings with European leaders, he is doing alright. Why is it that Europeans apparently are much tougher on their leaders? Less polarized, more parties?

Excited to see this out in PRQ - it was a long time underway. The plot says it all: In democracies, finance ministers keep their jobs when the economy does well. In dictatorships, there is no such link. So, democratic institutions incentivize good performance!
