Truly. I know most of the country laughs off FL but we are what’s coming. We’ve lost 3 panthers in 3 wks already 11 this yr from vehicles but build baby build. What happens when developers control the Wildlife Commission. Bye bye wildlife corridors, etc. This is what the maybe 200 have left.

All. Of. This. DeSantis must never hold power again. The fact that this blacksite void of any real accountability was ever allowed let alone able to continue is something that should genuinely scare us all.

The extrajudicial nature of Alligator Alcatraz is so stark that Florida refused to sign federal legal agreements giving the Florida Division of Emergency Management, which administers Alligator Alcatraz, the authority to conduct immigration detention. These agreements, such as 287(G) or IGSA contracts, would clarify which entity has legal custody of people jailed at Alligator Alcatraz and inform legal processes for detainees. The lack of legal clarification resulted in the erosion of due process and civil rights for detainees who were held for months without the opportunity to meet with their lawyers, or even an immigration officer or judge. They were basically held incommunicado, preventing families or lawyers from locating them.

If Alligator Alcatraz is dismantled, the story doesn't end with its shuttering. Most of the people detained there will end up transferred to other detention centers, and their families will need assistance. The organizations Workers Circle and Sanctuary of the South, which have both advocated against Alligator Alcatraz since its opening, are launching a noble campaign to ensure that no human being held at Alligator Alcatraz is left without counsel. There is also close to a billion dollars in taxpayer funds that went to vendors through no-bid state contracts. When this detention camp closes, many people in the private sector will have walked away having made millions of dollars.

Giorgio Agamben describes the state of exception as "a space devoid of law, a zone of anomie in which all legal determination is deactivated". That's exactly what Governor DeSantis created in Alligator Alcatraz through the misuse of emergency powers, an extrajudicial black site in which torture and political grifting took place in a systematized manner, under his watch.

This prob sounds insane but keeping this f-er alive for 18 years is a real accomplishment for me. 2 great escapes (one lasted 41 days), a f-ed up neighbor tried selling him online, I gave him Fresca instead of water, finding him cuddled with an alligator in his screen room, etc. 🤦‍♀️🙃😂

Mosaic has been trying to weaken the Water Quality Assurance Act for years.

For instance, in the spring of 2024, Florida’s Republican-controlled Legislature nearly passed a bill that would have dramatically reduced the legal exposure that polluters face under the law. The legislation ultimately failed to pass in part because of intense opposition from environmental groups and lobbyists for personal-injury lawyers.

That 2024 bill was pushed in public by business front groups like the Florida Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Florida. But records show that Mosaic lobbyists were pushing it behind the scenes.

After the 2024 session ended, one of the lawmakers who had sponsored that bill — Rep. Toby Overdorf (R-Palm City) — expressed interest in refiling it for the 2025 session. Before he did, Overdorf had an aide to reach out to a Mosaic lobbyist to ask whether the lobbyist had any updates to the legislation.

The lobbyist responded by asking Overdorf not to refile the bill at all, according to emails obtained through public-records requests. Overdorf never did.

“Please hold back for the time being,” the Mosaic lobbyist wrote in a December 2024 email to Overdorf’s aide. “Some developments on this. Will explain.”

It looks smoky outside but it’s sand/dust from the trucks hauling the muck out on the Lake O dike. It is awful! I was outside long enough to snap the pic and my eyes are gritty and I feel sand on my skin. If this actually lasts until June they’re gonna need to repair the dike too. 😳

The goal is expansion. Why else would Nvidia be interested in what used to be called a community college? Call me cynical but I doubt Nvidia is interested in student learning in our rural community.

The 9-megawatt figure was chosen because Florida Power & Light informed the college that it was the maximum power capacity at the site, according to the presentation. School leaders, though, are hoping that will grow, and Treadwell mentioned that officials are exploring ways to generate more electricity on-site so it could take fuller advantage of the 200 acres.
"I know we're close to natural gas pipelines — is there an opportunity to build generators out there, turbines out there, or maybe even beyond that?" he remarked. "We're going to be engaged in discussions about how we can fire up more of the site."

Treadwell also said that the school would soon be announcing its corporate partner for the campus. While noting that he couldn't break his nondisclosure agreements,
