Marcel Update: he is an ABSOLUTE angel…but sadly caught ringworm at the rescue (which was not disclosed when I picked him up, hence the cuddling) So, in addition to his medical dip and a 5-week regimen of an oral antifugal, he must quarantine for 4 weeks. My little boy in the plastic bubble 🥹😞😷

Eligible tenured faculty and administrators whose requests are approved and are not withdrawn within the prescribed period will receive payment equal to one (1) year’s annual base pay as stated in their respective UNT faculty salary notice for fiscal year 2026.

Eligible professional faculty whose requests are approved and are not withdrawn within the prescribed period will receive a one-time payment equal to six (6) month’s annual base pay as stated in their respective UNT faculty salary notice for fiscal year 2026.

No job has “obvious economic value”! Just a few years ago, everyone claimed CS and its ilk were THE paths. Now, how many articles are there saying “I got a CS degree, but now I can’t find a job!” Data shows employers consistently seek employees with skills that can be learn in ANY MAJOR!

Texas Monthly: The “Talent String Texas” plan talks a lot about “credentials of value,” which it defines as degrees where the economic benefits outweigh the costs. How do you measure degrees that maybe don’t have an obvious economic value, like art history or sociology?

CM: The reason we talk about building a talent-strong Texas is because the world is changing. Technology is changing; jobs are changing. For us, being in the board, we need to make sure that the degrees we’re offering have real-world implications. That students can go out and have real jobs and have real impact.

Perhaps Texas could, I don’t know, invest more in its educational infrastructure? Better, equitable pay for faculty (regardless of rank) and staff, for one… Two: stop persecuting faculty for asking students to think, read, and engage critically with questions central to living in the modern World…

Texas Monthly: In the U.S. News and World Report’s most recent college rankjngs, Texas had one pubkic university in the top fifty, while California has Six. How does Texas get our universities to that level?

CM: There’s a lot for me to catch up on when it comes to stats and things like, you know, how many universities we have in the top fifty. I need to get up to speed on that. But I will say that Texas is growing. I would say that we have a chance to have all Ont public universities be top in the world.
