Pro Tip: Get the current administration to start a war with you, then hold them to a stalemate as a valuable commodity rises and they fold, then they pay you hundreds of billions of dollars. Sorted.
I’ve committed to attend HeroesCon this weekend, but it’s a madhouse of sports for me, the Barcelona GP, Thunder Valley motocross race, the World Cup, and as a long-time New Yorker, the Knicks are in the NBA Finals! You’ll most likely find me at Dexter Vines’ table watching cars go round and round.
Turns out Mr Burns was a big collector of Gill's art. Now how do you feel about his actions?
I love a gravel driveway, but every one has a spot or two that no amount of added stone or compacting will level out. Ever.
NORWEGIAN WOOD Haruki Murakami Murakami captures the timeless certainty and insecurity of youth caught in transition to adulthood in this heartbreaking but oddly reassuring novel of isolated realism. #bookshelf26 #booksky
I bailed out early of DD; Born Again Season 1, and just did the same with 2. Today I figured out why. 1/3
ESCAPO Paul Pope Pope’s experimental humanist and expressionist narrative which tests themes of self-worth through a dark, familial, circus world. It's a joy to see the artist test and search for his voice throughout the book. #bookshelf26 #booksky
A SMALL TOWN IN GERMANY John le Carré A sleight shift in le Carré’s run of books with little connective [character] tissue to the previous offerings. While the characters posed a narrative challenge, it’s a prescient book for today’s geopolitics. #bookshelf26 #booksky
Amazing show last night with @wolfvanhalen.bsky.social here in Asheville. Hope the show put paid to the cold.
Going through old client files and found this window concept for Barneys. Mayhem and Evel Knievel on Madison Avenue.
Hear me out Disney. Cast Jeremy Allen White and Austin Butler in a live-action HAVOK & WOLVERINE: MELTDOWN.
PLAYTIME Aron Wiesenfeld While not replete with words, Aron’s elaborate Post-it note drawings is packed full of that lonely and liminal adolescent period where little fits. While subjectively playful, a darkness of loss and the unknown prevails. Brilliant stuff. #bookshelf26 #booksky
QUIT YOUR JOB James Kochalka This was a gift from a student two or three lifetimes ago. James captures that free and magical period in twenty-something, smallish town, life, and blends it with a late ‘90s GenX ethos. Miss those days. #bookshelf26 #booksky
BITTER ROOT Vol 3 Walker, Brown, & Green The period techno-magical saga surrounding the expansive Sangerye family continues. Wonderful to have such a high-profile alternate history comic resonate with a modern audience. #bookshelf26 #booksky
OUT OF SIGHT Elmore Leonard What a book. As a huge fan of the film, this book is a page-after-page treat. Every character is fleshed out and the story has so many [stylish] moving pieces. Elmore at his crimey best. #bookshelf26
THE PAPER PEOPLE Alain Dodier & Pierre Makyo Book two in this French detective novel series, and already the mystery has improved. The artwork is lively and inventive. Finding the rest of these in English may be a pipe dream, so I may have to settle with the brilliant storytelling. #bookshelf26
DUBLINERS James Joyce What a collection of glorious prose packed full of relations, relationships, class difference, and life in turn-of-the-century Dublin. The blend of humor and sadness rarely lets one beat the other out. A primer in self-effacing characters. #bookshelf26
TRUE GRIT Charles Portis Rarely have I seen two [great] film versions of the same book before I’ve read it. That didn’t stop Portis’ words from painting a vivid picture with Haliee Steinfeld and John Wayne playing the roles. Far from perfect, but a winning story, and great dialog. #bookshelf26
