Non-spoilery thoughts on The Odyssey (movie):

It's good. It's different from a lot of movies, I think. The pacing is, I'd say, somewhat abnormal. But it's good. It's entertaining, thoughtful, visceral and even has something of a hopeful perspective.

I need to reread The Odyssey because I'm sure they took liberties or skipped certain things and I'd like to know where changes were made. I'd also like to know what perspective it's told from because I suspect that's different from the movie and I like to assess the choices there just in terms of the craft of telling a story.

I think the perspective of the movie and the way the story is presented was effective and established a through-line that well-stitched together the many different events that Odysseus took part in while also keeping a good bit of the focus elsewhere and that combination felt natural. The events could have felt quite disparate but they didn't and that's great ... but I'll only know how much credit to give for that once I revisit the book itself.

I wouldn't say it's all-time great (I do think some of his other movies are) but I do already want to rewatch it. There's just so much that would be easy to miss in a three hour movie (that doesn't really have filler).

I love that Pochettino is willing to talk truth to US Soccer. I don't know if he would work as coaching in the long-term, certainly not for the developmental aspect, I imagine, but I love that he's not playing politics and It's comfortable talking about some of the sports problems in the US.

This is my favorite thing to do in Dark Souls games. Not necessarily Ring Around the Rosie with Peek-A-Boo headshots but finding ways to cheese the game and guarantee victory - even if it takes longer and it's maybe harder / more tedious to do that just fighting. I'm weird.

Final Boss DS3, second phase. Really felt like my dodge timing was lagged. I basically had to pre-dodge and that's a hard adjustment to make - as all of the hits I take can testify. Feels weird to dodge, get hit and stagger, then have the dodge process after the stagger. Lots of those here.

When a Dark Souls lover plays DS3 for the first time, encounters a new enemy and immediately stops to figure out how to cheese it. Because returning fire with a bit of my own "that's unfair" is my favorite part of Dark Souls.

I absolutely refuse to dim my hopes because they're mine and they're all I have. However:

Imagine interviewing a guy and getting a feel for his leadership experience, his football mind, his ideas on roster construction, his executive potential and all that. Finally, you hire him and celebrate - My God, this guy seems perfect!

Then comes his first day and you're just so excited to watch him get to work righting the ship. What will he do first? Call the quarterback? Give a rip roaring speech? Maybe he wants a tour of the facilities and to start meeting all of the unsung employees who make things run smoothly?

Nope. None of that.

The first thing he does, his number one priority, is getting rid of seed oils.
