Is it a great timelapse? No. Is it perfectly tracked? No. Is it exactly time-aligned? No. But it's mine. From my front doorstep. Some said "I got nothing by me"...well...physics don't work like that...I can only assume you went back indoors before the maximum... #SolarEclipse #Eclipse #Eclipse2026
Each photo in this montage is two minutes apart. It was like an extra sunset, and yet some people are posting online that they "got nothing" where they lived...even though they were in the same partial eclipse path, with the same moon, same sun, and same sky? 🤔 #SolarEclipse #Eclipse #Eclipse2026
Wasn't great footage, but it was a great memory. I glanced at the camcorder occasionally and moved it manually, but concentrated on enjoying the eclipse with my own eyes, with family and neighbours. Not trying to compete with far better photographers/equipment. #SolarEclipse #Eclipse #Eclipse2026
Brought this camcorder out of retirement for the solar eclipse. Last used in 2015. Still had three-quarters battery when I stopped. Impressed it held a charge at all, after all this time. It's only SD, but it's got a great zoom lens, probably the best I own. #SolarEclipse #Eclipse #Eclipse2026
And here's the teletext art I made for my totally-jumping-on-the-bandwagon video inspired by The Odyssey 😜 (also available on Nemetext p172, which is an intentional nod to the runtime in minutes...yes, I'm that pedantically geeky sometimes 🤣) #Odyssey #TheOdyssey #ChristopherNolan #CRT #Teletext
A friend donated this IBM ThinkPad 365X to me, saying "I knew you'd know what to do with it!" I tried an SD to IDE adapter, but that was a no-go. The laptop could see some files, but trying to access them made half disappear. Very odd. The CF to IDE adapter, though? Proof is in the pudding!
The telescopic support pole that's so easy to install, even girls can do it! 🥳 This online shopping advert appeared in my feeds...*checks notes*...yesterday...in...*checks calendar*...2026 🤦♂️ #EverydaySexism
Not the first time I've connected an old PC to my own dialup ISP, but the first time the PC and ISP haven't been in the same room, let alone on the same table! The theoretical maximum speed is 33.6 kbps (two modems alone can't hit 56k something something), so 26.4 to the attic and back ain't bad!
Only seven months after I put this testbench PC together, it finally has an operating system on it! 🫣 I've had plenty of other things going on, but I was also agonising about how to partition the drive to get the optimum multiboot scenario, and as a result, it was just sitting around doing nothing.
Dr. Jamie Nemeth presents: Fun With Frequencies The first image is Freeview on its own, direct from the loft aerial. The second image is the analogue TV signal from my six UHF modulators, without the loft aerial plugged in. The device is a TinySA spectrum analyzer.
I look very serious here, but maybe that's because it's a serious day? I voted for who I felt had the best interests of Wales at heart, based on evidence not propaganda, optimism not anger. I chose hope over division today. @plaidcymru.bsky.social #BrycheiniogTaweNedd #PlaidCymru #Senedd2026
And here it is, in real teletext, on a real CRT TV. @plaidcymru.bsky.social #BrycheiniogTaweNedd #PlaidCymru #Senedd2026 #Teletext #TeletextArt
How could I have missed this opportunity, until now, to show my support in the most "me" way possible?! The party I'll be voting for in tomorrow's Senedd elections, as teletext art. @plaidcymru.bsky.social #BrycheiniogTaweNedd #PlaidCymru #Senedd2026 #Teletext #TeletextArt
Yup, that works! I bought acrylic stands to display some calculators I got in that eBay job lot recently. But then I realised I could use them for the remotes that belong to my retro/vintage AV corner (CRT TV and VCRs), rather than having them all unceremoniously stashed away in a drawer.
Catchphrase is always on when I finish work lately...think it's gone to my head, now that I'm putting up these shelves... So...say what you see...what are these? 😛
Had to take apart my new PC setup to put carpet down...but now that's done, the reward was to finally be able to put up these shelves. They'll provide a bit of storage, but they're not designed for enormous weight, so plushies, plastic things, and empty boxes are perfect for a bit of decoration.
Bought a job lot of calculators and databanks off eBay, as you do... Each is interesting, but the wallet-like scientific calculator swung it. Never seen one like it. Some others were a bit special too, including THE WORLD'S FIRST LCD POCKET CALCULATOR, and a databank with handwriting recognition?!
Happy birthday to my YouTube channel. Seven years on YouTube, and probably not even seven months' worth of content... ...but hey, life's what happens while you're busy making other plans, and there's been a lot of life happening for me. Not everything has to be content. www.youtube.com/jamienemeth
Been unable to get data on or off the PowerBook Duo 230. "Just use a classic Mac and use AppleTalk over serial," said the forums. But I didn't own any other Macs... So I got the 1400cs, but then the trackpad stopped working! So I got an ADB mouse, and finally...THEY'RE TALKING! #MARCHintosh
Oh, you're kidding! A second one already, on the very next tape?! (9th July 1998)
Yay, I gots one! Told ya I could feel it 😊 (and I still haven't finished all of box 1 of 3!) 28th April 1993 - needs some work, but it's intelligible, and it's different to the one before and the one after it in the vault, so it's a win!
Definitely possible. I didn't see anything (else) obvious by eye, but when I reviewed photos, there's a faint white residue (boundary most visible between the ZIF and the large square chip) which I reassured myself was from my contact cleaner. Could it be a small electrolytic leak that's run down?
Well, last night I learned how to disassemble and reassemble a Mac Powerbook 1400cs! 😰 The trackpad (and click button) has stopped working. To my untrained eye, that surface mount capacitor labelled PC27 - in close proximity to the trackpad ribbon cable ZIF connector - looks sus. What do you think?
Managed it at lunchtime instead! I don't think this was a wasted cleaning effort, but it didn't fix the problem. Some more research later, and it seems that there's a 'power manager' which gets a bit ditzy if the PRAM (small internal rechargeable batteries) are low on charge. Will try resetting it.
As it's #MARCHintosh again, I had another shot at the challenge of getting files on/off the Powerbook Duo 230. Two years ago (😮) I bought a 1400cs to act as a bridge, using AppleTalk over serial. Had it all set up yesterday, but the previously-working trackpad stopped play! 😢 ADB mouse on way...
