My dog Susie-Belle inspired me to write 6 books and create Schnauzerfest, a UK charity I run with a brilliant team. New book out Nov’26 Home SW 🇫🇷 www.janettaharvey.com @schnauzerfest.bsky.social
We have Leelou from Paris back for a visit and she’s a characterful noisy little pudding who is at least helping Galen and the schnauzers bond as they dodge her Parisienne feistiness. I am hoping (not planning as this is the year the ink isn’t dry on them before they burn!) for a quiet September.
I’m finding it hard to believe it’s just a week ago that I arrived home with Galen. So heaven knows what he thinks! He’s doing brilliantly. At dawn this morning he had a lovely free running zoomie moment with Albert which lifted my heart and couldn’t have started our day better.
Galen came home with the sweetest card tucked inside his travel bag from @barlows.bsky.social
He’s healed physically but emotionally has a little way to go, and may never be a normal dog exactly. I will not forget what he has survived, nor the dogs he’ll have left behind in the hands of a breeder in Wales who should not still be operating but is. More on that another day.
Galen Soleil joined us this week, arriving in time for the solar eclipse (the second part of his name), and Galen is in honour of Angel (anagram). Galen until recently was stuck in a breeding place. He’s had 29 teeth removed due to severe dental disease, treatment for ear mites and neutering.
Saving You, Saving Me can be pre-ordered now in time for its autumn release. It’s the real story behind the charity, my most personal writing and it’s taken me years to complete. Sales will directly support the charity’s work (I will make no profit). maddisonhousepress.co.uk/product/savi...
New book coming in the autumn, more details to follow #Schnauzerfest #SchnauzerGang #Writers
July 2019 and it was Twinkle’s last summer. It feels a lifetime ago. In a way it was, Angel’s lifetime with us. She joined us in the autumn that year. When Angel died earlier this month I vowed to speak louder about the harm done to dogs in the breeding industry. I will keep that promise to her.
Yesterday we collected Angel’s ashes and brought her home. She’s back with the gang.
Very sadly Angel died on 1st July after a terrifyingly aggressive tumour decided to claim her. Thankfully she remained seemingly unaffected despite it ravaging her beautiful face in the space of a few days. We’re remembering her as she lived her life with us, loudly, bossily and utterly uniquely.
We have seriously sad news about Angel. But we will love, love and love her more for as long as we have left together. www.janettaharvey.com/writing/angel/
It’s almost 2 years since Nanou came to live with us. Life was bad for her in the breeding industry but today she’s the happiest little dog. Not all dogs recover as well. Some carry lifelong trauma. The puppy industry is driven by an insatiable demand by the public and is wrong on many levels.

Out and back - and out again is our day. I am avoiding plonking myself in front of the computer again. Can’t avoid it for long but right now the dogs and their walks are more appealing and I am giving in to the appeal. #SchnauzerGang #Schnauzerfest
I am loving ‘Three Wild Dogs’ by Markus Zusak, the writing’s great as you’d expect and it’s littered with terrific, honest passages like this. Highly recommend it.
After her illness it was lovely taking Cerise out today and seeing her happily sniffling her way along the path in her own time #SchnauzerGang #Schnauzerfest
Cerise is doing ok, she let us give her eye a gentle wash, and was, to our surprise, an angel. I worried it wasn’t looking as good first thing this morning as it has been. But after the wash, I felt better. She still has several days of meds in any case, which should continue working their magic 🤞
It’s been a rough few days for Cerise. A nasty infection behind her eye, we thought she’d had a stroke. Thankfully the meds are working and she’s getting back to her old self. It’s been upsetting knowing she’s in pain, I feel hugely relieved the worst looks to be over. #SchnauzerGang
I was in the UK last weekend on the @schnauzerfest.bsky.social stall at All About Dogs. I love all dogs, schnauzers of course, but I very nearly adopted a staffie back in 2011 when Susie-Belle popped into my life. LOVE them & was very happy to meet many last weekend. We don’t see many here 🇫🇷
Great start to the week, the river’s slowly warming, 12 degrees today and we had the happy company of Poppy
Tsuki can now increase his walks bit by bit, on lead and controlled. Albert and he usually love chasing around the garden, but for now they’re side by side and almost sedate. Dogs are great buddies and seem to sense what’s needed.
Tsuki’s back with us to recover from a broken leg, the schnauzers are giving him plenty of moral support in his confinement. It’ll be a long few weeks for him.
