Brent above $85. European gas back over €50/MWh as Hormuz escalates again. A reminder: A fifth of global oil and LNG passes through that strait. Every heat pump, EV and electrified factory shrinks this exposure. Electrons made at home cannot be blockaded in a shipping lane.
My critics ran out of arguments. Latest attack: I’m bald. Guilty. Rather than hair transplant to hide my age (46), I spend the money on gym. 3 years ago I could barely pull 40kg. Here’s 180kg. Hair never helped anyone deadlift or do research. I’ll continue focusing on things that matter to me.

3/ Irony number two. I was told for years that climate change is a hoax and British summers aren't getting hotter. Now the same voices demand to know why Britain never installed AC. You cannot have it both ways. The case for cooling IS the case that the climate is changing.
Yesterday the Telegraph reported on my comments about air conditioning. The comment section is quite something. I have apparently become a hero of the anti net zero crowd by saying something what I think is sensible about air con. Allow me to point out three ironies in this 🧵
India just generated 50% of its electricity from clean sources. For 15 minutes. Sounds trivial? That's how every record starts: first minutes, then a day, then a month, then a whole year. Some states are already there: Karnataka crossed 60% clean power last year.

Nobody wants EVs” is now a decade-old genre of journalism. Over that decade, EV share of new UK car sales went from 0.3% to 25%. The genre hasn’t aged well.

What gives me hope: Not everyone falls for misinformation and the heating market in Germany has shifted dramatically despite all the toxicity around the topic.
German cities are tasked with planning their way out of fossil fuel heating. The first 223 plans reviewed show fossil fuels gone by 2045. District heating rises from 16% to 40%, heat pumps reach 38%, and heating demand falls by a third.
UK heat pumps have got a lot more efficient over time. Higher efficiency means lower running costs, lower peak demand, bigger carbon savings and less load on the energy system. Our study on this was picked up by pv magazine. Long read on Substack coming soon. Sign up: janrosenow.substack.com
The jaws of the energy transition are closing. In 2005 fossil fuels made two-thirds of the world's electricity. Today it's 57.4%, with clean power (renewables + nuclear) at 42.6%. Fossil share peaked around 2012 and keeps falling. More in Sunday's Substack: janrosenow.substack.com
Africa is becoming an EV growth story. The FT reports that the energy crisis has supercharged African demand for electric motorbikes and buses. Start-ups rolling out charging infrastructure are raising record sums. The transition isn’t just a Europe, US and China story anymore.

Renewables now dominate new power capacity worldwide. In 2005 they were 28% of additions. They passed half in 2012. Since 2019, never below three quarters. Yes, this is capacity not generation. It shows what gets built. That’s the point. Data @irena-official.bsky.social
New @iea.org analysis on EU electrification answers a question people keep asking: is going electric actually cheaper today? For large share of demand, increasingly yes. Where a country's bar reaches into or above the 2025 price band, it's already cost-competitive. Hold-up is cost, grids and taxes.
