Let´s remember that russia/stalin made a pact with nazi germany in 1939, to divide Europe. Hitler launched the attack on Poland one! day after the agreement was ratified by Moscow. Stalin followed up, as agreed, attacking Poland from the east less than two weeks later. This kicked off WW2.
