I saw the bountiful harvest posts saying Happy Lughnasadh. I learned today that it is an ancient Gaelic harvest festival marking the beginning of the harvest season. I am celebrating!!
Today’s harvest. Oaxacan Jewel (1# 4oz), Woodstock & Green Cherokee tomatoes, rattle snake beans, cucumbers, peppers, cherry & globe tomatoes & 4 eggs from the hens. It is all happening now!
My first ‘big’ tomato of the season!A black & brown boar weighing in at 2 & a half ounces. It made a delicious grilled sandwich with fresh mozzarella & balsamic vinegar.
I don’t have groundhogs but I have gophers, squirrels & voles. Raised beds & netting helps.
Shopping my garden. No cyclosporiasis. I still wash the greens to remove the occasional bug. Not pictured are 6 oz of cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes are still ripening and soon I will have a bumper crop if all goes well.
My current problem is eating it fast enough but it does last a while in the frig
Happy summer solstice. My first tomato is ripe. Sun Gold cherry tomato.
I also roast & then run through the blender. I freeze it in quart bags so I can eat a little summer in winter.
My honey got me this new Cat Mom mug at the Goodwill. Maybe I need to get a white cat to go with my bonded pair?
It is happening! The tomatoes are coming. I can’t wait for sun warm juicy deliciousness.

Planted out 38 starts! 14 tomatoes, 4 cucumbers, 4 peppers, 3 eggplants, 6 radishes, 6 basil & 1 native pollinator. Grow grow grow!
I went to a plant sale today. I will have so much fun planting them out. This summer will be the best! No critters will eat my crops before I harvest. It will not be too hot. My irrigation will not fail. I will not have any pests or diseases.
I made lasagna with garden grown tomatoes, onions, garlic & chard. That is 8 meals, calculating at $8 each = $64 savings. A delicious taste of last summer waiting in my freezer for nights I don’t want to cook. Which is really every night…

We had a wonderful vernal equinox celebration yesterday. We observed nature, learned about other celebrations, made spring wreaths and sowed seeds.

Friday the 13th is lucky when you have a black cat with an Angel’s Kiss - a white spot considered a mark of divine protection, shielding black cats from persecution during times when black cats were associated with witchcraft. Plus I love the white ear tuffs.
It is war. The only way I ‘won’ was 365 degrees of 1/2 inch hardware mesh - top, sides, dug into ground. Chickens in 40’x8’ enclosed run & coop. Rats, bob cats, raccoons & coyotes are outside. They test the defenses but can’t get in.
It is all happening again! Seeded onions, leeks, & Asian greens. I love growing as much of my own food as I can.
Oxalis can be invasive. I have a growing patch. It is pretty but is taking over and outcompeting the other wild flowers in my ‘meadow’.

We had a black cat named Kitty. No one could agree on a name and Kitty was his name.
