My grandfather was an electrical engineer. He built power stations. 100 years ago after he had married my grandmother he went to Russia to work. My grandma trained as a tailor but never worked outside the home.
OTD in history, the battle of Killiecrankie was fought. It was fought almost entirely by highlanders on both sides. The Jacobites were led by John Graham of Claverhouse or Bonnie Dundee and Cameron of Lochiel The Government forces were led by Major- General High Mackay.

OTD in 1592, Lady Margaret Campbell brought her son the 2nd Earl of Moray to Edinburgh intending to display his body and force the king to bring his killers to justice. Ye Hielands and ye Lowlands, O, whaur hae ye been? They hae slain the Earl o’ Moray, And laid him on the green.
I think that is actually more likely to be the remnants of something like this. And there's no evidence that that was worn by a woman.
