This thread is incorrect because the Bill covers belief as to one's sexual orientation, not just one's "legal" sexual orientation per the EA. So any abusive practice attempted to change one's belief as to their sexuality is covered – ie convincing a trans woman they are not attracted to women.

And the bits that worries me most is 9(b). I think there are lots of "therapists" who might try and fall under this exception. Such "therapists" are on of the key ways in which trans youth experience conversion in practice. So this could be a very large hole allowing kids to still be abused.

Now, the very bad bit. The exception for healthcare is very wide. It means that when conversion practices are institutionalised in the way they are in trans youth healthcare, doctors can just say "well all the other doctors do conversion practices too". Given what we know about NHS care...

A concern. I understand why this is mirrored for neatness of construction (and because the sexuality provisions have to be mirrored to protect asexual people. But I imagine we will see police complaints and attempted private prosecutions of trans supportive people by gender critical campaigners.

Let's start with the good parts. It's trans inclusive, and in a comprehensive way. It goes beyond the definition of gender reassignment in the Equality Act 2010, very explicitly including people with non-binary gender identities. This is great to see.

Really concerning to see this kind of rhetoric from practising members of the Bar. If this said "we don't know what proportion of gay men are pedophiles but we know it's some of them" I would hope that people would recognise this for what it is. Sadly they don't when it's about trans people.
