Proper Christmas Tree, with proper candles. Not pictured, the bucket of water and fire extinguisher, because we are very sensible.
O.K. @stellacreasy.bsky.social and Michael Gove having a very robust, but seemingly amicable, debate in a Cuban bar was not on my #LabourConference bingo card.
COVID is still here, and my wife and I can confirm, it's still rubbish.
I'm ok with annoying, repetitive adverts on #Spotify* But I feel compelled to angrily point out that BIRTHDAY CAKE IS NOT A FLAVOUR! Thank you for your attention in this matter. *I refuse to pay for premium, I just buy an album if I am listening to a band a lot.
I can't interact with @davidallengreen.bsky.social's post here, but not sure today's SCOTUS judgement re department of Education undermines the value of the US as a case study for the value of written constitutions.
But what's really striking is that the Tories have been steadily declining since *April 2020*, while reform's rise only really began in October 2023, drawing primarily on Labour decline (particularly since the General Election) (per @politico.eu poll of polls).
I feel like the UK Government needs to hire new designers for the covers of Industrial Strategy documents...
Hard, but fair - I can't help seeing my party as the bedraggled wet dog of British politics...
That's not an alarming chart at all. The post war global order is collapsing. What comes next is a scary question. And all the time we spend on that is time not spent fighting climate change etc...
I think this may be the most relatable thing a UK government official has ever said. And also, you know, works regardless of context. h/t @politico.eu Stefan Boscia
I'm honestly not sure if the UK (rest of world?) version is better or worse...
If you see this, post a mountain picture. (Not the best picture, but Nevis is my best mountain to date.)
I am genuinely baffled that a government which apparently recognises the need to decarbonise the UK economy is also supporting airport expansion.... 😮💨 www.building.co.uk/news/governm...
I imagine there are many corporate workers out there who would take a different view to @politico.eu on what sequestering business leaders might do for productivity...
Singularly unimpressive. Though I was at the early stage of the recent surge I guess...
Tim Walz is sadly wrong. Violence is deeply embedded in the US culture...
I was today years old when I realised @jonnelledge.bsky.social is a fan of the John Masefield children's classic "The Box of Delights" (gloriously adapted for TV by a very 80s BBC, starring Patrick Troughton, aka the Second Doctor). Though now I say it, it feels not at all surprising.
Kinda wild being in a world where @thetimes.com has fewer than 1000 followers
