#2 jan 7 - jan 11 Earth Angel, by Madeline Cash a collection of short stories and flash fiction that reads like an autopsy of tumblr, circa 2010. evocative and visceral, lingering on vulgarity. at times it’s absurdist tendencies brought me back to late night kik-fueled high school group chats.

jan 9 - jan 11 The Weary Blues, by Langston Hughes such an extraordinary collection. beautiful metaphors make for lush poetry. his depictions of his travels paint vivid pictures that force you to feel beside him on his journeys. a testament to him being a foundational harlem renaissance member.

the mint edition of the weary blues by langston hughes (an art deco cover consisting of mint green, dark sea green, navy blue, and greyish black - featuring a black band containing the title and author). a top a vibrant quilt with cat patterns. accompanied by a bookmark with california poppies set against a blue background, simply labeled “CALIFORNIA”. my hand steadies the cover in the bottom right hand corner.

with the recent anti-contemporary art push, if any one loved me as tenderly as félix gonzalez torres did, i’d know my life would have been enough - like a posthumous exaltation. portrait of ross in l.a. is a piece that haunts my mind, it is a lovers testament to his partner. a monument of love.
