I had that very specific late-century Florida childhood every middle grade author wishes they’d had also, if i ever complain ever ever about being tired <at ALL> on here, pls remind me to check the barometric pressure
PGH meteorologist Trey Fulbright: “concentrations of smoke particulate matter are 3-4x higher than what was observed in the Summer 2023 smoke episode. This has resulted in Air Quality Indices to range between 400-900+ which is exceptionally high-registering as code purple & burgundy air quality.”
me: i’ll go to the cool, peaceful, shady woods for an hour to listen to my audiobook and hydrate and be in nature before i’m trapped in the house for 2 days the cool, peaceful, shady woods:
So far, an old rubbermaid bendy-ish storage bin lid is the most popular water source, by far. i put a few stones under 1 corner to deepen the pool on the opposite side so birds can bathe. my groundhog drinks from it, & the squirrels are even coming down to drink. the mister keeps it full & cold, too
y’all, my lemon tree is having a SUMMER the entire yard smells like a citrus grove rn
well…i imagine this person is having an interesting day (she blocked me after this exchange, so i have no idea)
i know we were fortunate not to go into last week’s heat dome in any kind of drought state, but i imagine we lost a decent amount of groundwater to the heat, so this is a very good afternoon!
yeah the satellite imagery over mt lebo blew up from nothing to that green blob in the past 20 min, so strengthening looks likely (vs raining itself out)
my girl has cleaned off since her mud roll yesterday, and was looking bright-eyed & very alert & healthy today
before it got a thunder-y out, i was having the perfect july 4th. but i put that away & am just chilling in the shelter now, keeping an eye on the radars
you bet i came to the park to enjoy it. the hand pump i’ve been using to fill watering bowls this week is in the upper right, but now there are veritable streams everywhere!
squirrel sploot sighting. moved the water misters up into the trees after seeing this young one panting
sooooooon! between the heat wave lifting tonight & these glorious lil’ guys opening up, tomorrow morning’s coffee on the patio is going to be the best this year, i think
Mme Applebottom has a PSA for everyone this Fourth of July: stay cool and hydrated today!
