A Jill in Illinois

Born in Melvin. My dad killed Nazis. My birth was announced on Hee-Haw. she/her Progressive, Pan, GenX. Middle school science and history teacher. Looks like a meek middle-aged Midwest mom, is chaotic good.
I love it when my Roku does this. Reminds me of wacky cable tv screw ups in the 80s where you could almost get a porn channel or Captain Midnight took over HBO. And yes, as the fish run into the black areas, the water is then rendered and the blackness shrinks. It’s an optimistic error.
I am NOT an artist but I did get my grubby hands on some sidewalk chalk. Undecided on putting my flag out tomorrow.
So I bought a new-to-me brand of sparkling water yesterday at Schnucks because it was on sale for super cheap! I liked the sound of the flavors, I liked the price, I grabbed a few boxes. It has since been discovered that I have made a mistake with my purchase.
I get textbooks at my new school. This probably sounds awful to most people, but this is actually great!!
Ran out of pots, so we stuck an extra couple peppers in paint buckets.
Middle kid has arrived at his host family’s home in France. They had dinner (salad, charcuterie, bread) overlooking the Alps. The picture is from 9pm. I’m never getting this child back.
Happy Memorial Day from Cow Town USA. Literally. A cow got lose the other day. Hilarity ensued.
Happy Memorial Day weekend. Fuck the bad guys, imma still love my life.
Back around spring break, some kids asked me what would happen if we soaked pennies in a salt and vinegar solution until the end of school. Two months later and we’re about to find out.
Got a Mother’s Day card from my MIL. She didn’t have to, so it was a nice surprise. But I have questions about the graphic design choices here.
My grandma’s peonies are blooming about two weeks ahead of schedule.
I had mentioned at the start of school how I wanted a tank of shrimp as a classroom pet, but that the district made it practically impossible to have animals. Months later, the Kid Who Prefers Emails gave me this teacher appreciation gift.
New NASA Artemis merch arrived! It’s so awesome to be excited about space again! Okay, I didn’t stop, but still. You know what I mean.
Cheers to a beautiful spring weekend evening. Keeping my focus small so I can deal with the Trauma Timeline.
One of my students won a soybean plant at a field trip 2 weeks ago #MidwestIsBest. Not knowing what else to do, she gave the plant to me and said her name is Cardi Bean. I hope to get her out of her tiny cup this weekend and then back to school for the last month.
