Saddened to learn of the passing of Pat Oliphant, my favorite political cartoonist. Pat’s voice and pen were the sharpest and funniest take.
The stench emanating from Trump is overwhelmingly repulsive, so it’s surprising when a respectable person doesn’t appear to smell it. It’s fair to wonder whether they’re just politically nose-blind or if they actually enjoy it. Either way, my home just outside DC remains ready…

Just outside Edinburgh Castle there’s a shocking “memorial” to women accused of witchcraft and killed there. It’s shocking because 1) it’s in total disrepair, and 2) it says “some [accused women] used their exceptional knowledge for evil purposes”. This is a memorial?!?
I spent Father’s Day in the 3rd row for Marin Alsop and the National Orchestral Institute + Festival Philharmonic in a program highlighting compositions by Copland and Alsop’s mentor Leonard Bernstein. A glorious day.
Loved this show. It anticipated current tech and privacy issues, and I can’t imagine why it hasn’t been rebooted except that no one else remembers it.

The Shakespeare first folio (photos 1, 2) currently on display at the V&A is opened to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presumably in support of the wonderful new production currently playing at Shakespeare’s Globe (photos 3,4).
I’m an early riser, and rarely has starting my day at 5am been rewarded more scenically than in this view of Edinburgh Castle at daybreak from my hotel room during my stay in Scotland earlier this month.
