The one complaint I will indulge is that Nolan made the same mistake in his representation of the ancient Greek warriors as Zack Snyder made in his hit 2006 film 300. Nolan and Snyder share a vision of warfare in the ancient world as dirty, dark, and grim. Colors are muted, sepia-toned, all gray iron and filthy hardened leather. This Hollywood misrepresentation of ancient warfare is the one hill I will die on. These warriors were shining, as vividly hued as the bright paint on the ancient statuary we wrongly believe to have been bare white. Far from the dim, grimy stock of both Nolan’s and Snyder’s palettes, an ancient battlefield would have sparkled and flashed like a fireworks display. This failure to do justice to the actual beauty and drama of the real arms, armor, banners, horns, ships, and other kit of the ancient theater of war is, as I wrote when comparing the helmets of 300 to the genuine article, like making a tin can stand in for a Picasso.

In what world does Renée Good look less "normal" than Stephen Miller? Indeed, it's hard to imagine anyone looking more like a normal person, living her normal life than Ms. Good just before ICE murdered her.

The statement to Carolinas students does what I ask, and very well. But where is similar language for other applicants?

ED001 - Advances and Progress in Fostering a Supportive Scientific Community for All.

The health and vitality of any community relies on the health and vitality of the people who are there. The goal of this session is to promote efforts in the Earth and space science community fostering a supportive scientific space for people from all backgrounds. We encourage submissions from researchers and practitioners who are broadening participation and increasing retention by exploring the ways to optimize support of historically excluded groups. Submissions can include literature-supported programming and results, case studies, and theories and methodologies. Themes can include but are not limited to institutional accountability, student success and the learning environment, grassroots community initiatives, increasing employment opportunity, and interpersonal behaviors and competencies. This session is organized by the Student and Early Career and DEIA working groups of the AGU Education Section and AGQ, the AGU LGBTQIA Affinity Community.

The goal of this session is to provide an inclusive space where queer and allied scientists highlight their science across the AGU sections, noting how their perspectives influence how they navigate the scientific process. Themes can include, but are not limited to, research from all disciplines, projects focused on underrepresented communities, or commentaries about the intersection of identity and science communication. Submissions on research from all disciplines may focus on the scientific research, and, if applicable, may also include discussion on how identity has influenced the research process.

False positive rates vary widely. Turnitin has previously stated that its AI checker had a less than 1% false positive rate though a later study by the Washington Post produced a much higher rate of 50% (albeit with a much smaller sample size). Recent studies also indicate that neurodivergent students (autism, ADHD, dyslexia, etc…) and students for whom English is a second language are flagged by AI detection tools at higher rates than native English speakers due to reliance on repeated phrases, terms, and words.

This is a part that "Abundance" and "YIMBY" enthusiasts often neglect. Increasing supply is one part of addressing the housing problem, but supply alone isn't enough. We also need wealth redistribution to make the increased supply affordable.

The NAR report found that increasing supply alone doesn't solve the problem when there is an underlying mismatch between incomes and home prices.

"The key takeaway is that inventory alone does not tell the full story," Evangelou said. "The issue today is not simply how many homes are for sale, but it's whether the buyers can actually afford these homes."
