@jockeymorris
Jockey is a men's side based in Birmingham. We have been dancing here since 1949. We perform in our home city, all over this country and in Europe. Get in touch if you are interested in joining us. We'd love to see you! #BirminghamUk #CotswoldMorris
Today Jockey headed over to Middleton for the 100 years Village Fete celebrations. Our friends Caroline and Jess came over to see us and this post-performance (and pre-pint!) photo is from Jess Silk. Thanks!
A couple of photos from our evening in Birmingham with Minnesota Traditional Morris:
Just a few souvenirs of recent events at Baxterley with Anker, Coventry, Knightlow and First Class Stamp and at the Craven Ams in Birmingham.
The Upton on Severn Destruction Dance, performed in Sheffield while celebrating Pecsaetan's 25 years of dance!
We are in Sheffield today as guests of @pecsaetan on their 25th birthday. Come and say hello! We will be moving at times ...
We had a great time last night at the Coach House in Stratford along with our friends Hereburgh Morris and our hosts and good mates Shakespeare Morris. Our audiences also enjoyed the music and dancing. Bonus!
Jockey danced at dawn and, as you can see, we successfully raised up the Sun. Birmingham may rest easy in the knowledge that the sun will be with us for another year! The photo is by Sarah Eastwood.
We also joined our good friends Aelfgythe Border Morris once again for their Wassail earlier this month. As always, a great time was had despite rain attempting (and failing miserably) to dampen our spirits! Thanks to Aelfgythe for the photo:
Just realised we haven't posted any photos from the Plough Tour in January. Here you go; one of us dancing in Colmore Row and another of us, our guests, and the Plough itself! An excellent day, despite Storm Goretti's efforts!!
Jockey Morris is a friendly and outgoing men's side based in Birmingham! Help us preserve our traditions (and maybe start some new ones), we'd love to see you!! Contact as indicated below, or email bagman@jockeymorris.org.uk
At our AGM we celebrated with our President and Fool, John Strait, by presenting him with an engraved rose bowl to thank him for his 50 years with Jockey. Cheers John!! On to the next 50.....
Our Squire Pete and our Brilliant dancer/musician Fraser were at Peterborough Day of Dance yesterday, and performed with a scratch side with friends from other sides. Thanks go to Peterborough Morris for another excellent day.
Sunday at Bromyard got a little damp in the afternoon before dancing had to be abandoned. We tried to shelter, but the gazebo couldn't hold off the rain as we watched Gidderskins having a paddle at the Rose and Lion...
Congratulations to our Alfie who was presented with his baldrick today and danced out for the first time in his full kit!!
If you've thought "I'm not a folkie, would I fit in with a morris side?" then don't worry! Our musicians can help by channelling Hawkwind to invoke the Spirit Of The Age... It's not all work either. Particularly when we head over to mainland Europe we like to soak up the local way of life!
Jockey are in Saddleworth for the Rushcart weekend. Meeting up with friends from other sides is a big part of the joy of morris, so here are some of Jockey and Cambridge Morris Men!
A fantastic night yesterday at the Cask and Craft. Good reaction from the audiences sitting outside for a drink in the lovely evening weather. And many thanks to Mo at Mother India for bringing us a huge stack of poppadoms, onion salad and mint raita! They went beautifully with the great beers!
From a Brummie Morris side to a Brummie legend. The dance is Highland Mary. We made it Aston Mary for this! Rest easy, Ozzy.
Today we're back in Birmingham with lots of friends, to celebrate the Bulls In The City trail. Should be a good one, please come along and see the fun!
We had a great night at the Griffin at Shustoke last night, as guests of our old friends Anker Morris. Beautiful weather, good company, and a couple of very nice ales. Works for us!
Today I had cause to venture to B&Q. On the way in I saw this display. If you know you know..... Jockey knows. Many Flemish friends know. Ants. Make sure you're prepared.
Yesterday we were in Stourbridge for the day of dance organised by our mates Bedcote Morris. A good day out and, as you can see, we were constantly in a frenzy of intense action...
Yesterday we returned to Bearwood Artisan Market. Our John Rose was, unfortunately, insulted by the cheese he bought. Ah well, these things happen!
We sucessfully danced up a spectacular sunrise. Birmingham will have its sun for another year! It was so powerful, it set fire to our sticks...
