If you crop those useless black bars you get to see the entire video, and it is glorious

This is a big pet peeve of mine, and if your only device is 1920x1080 (16:9) you'll never be bothered by it, because you're the person they think they're serving (spoiler: fixing this changes nothing for you!) Everyone with a device that's the same proportion as the ACTUAL VIDEO gets this

The top and bottom middle black bars are "baked in" to the video, forced to be shown. On an ultrawide device (my monitor and most phones these days) this shrinks down the Actual Video and leaves a big amount of black space left and right as well.

The result is a smaller, lower-resolution display of the video.

There is no good reason for this choice. It helps nothing. If the black bars weren't there, they'd be added on an actual 16:9 device and it'd look THE EXACT SAME FOR THOSE USERS

Most trailers do this, and again: FOR NO GOOD REASON
