Almost every single thing you have told me has been fabricated?Yes, that is completely correct. Thanks! Hauled out my copy to look at the "!" tags: Page 106 in particular could be flagged up to mean that. p123 possibly. However, p158 suggests firstly that outward sight-lines are an alternative and then later introduces uncertainty (especially the latter part). @amandachadburn.bsky.social ?

First blackberries and greengages of the season. Greengage crop small this year, but blackberry crop is going to be huge. This is not normal.

All the butts are dry. Was August before this happened last year. This is not normal.

Rain collector pipe: rain in and rain back in to downpipe at top. Rain out at (capped) bottom which creates a head for supplying tanks about 100 feet away (this also needs an air bleed if anyone thinks of doing it, but that's just an upstanding piece of tube with its end pinched & taken off a 3-way connector)

So can report that external wrap "shutters" work extremely well on south facing windows. Probably slightly better than 50mm internal poly. Been 33C here today.

External wrap shutter being prepared: cut to length and end wrapped in 10mm x 47x 570 batten (with solvented glue) central hook then wrapped around casement in layers using bungee and stainless hook and eyes.

Wrap-round external blinds in preparation for next week. I think this'll work but, If not, going for fixed shutters for next year. 27°C in the shade already (away from local effects) and this is supposed to be the cool day.

Wrap-round external blinds: bubble foil insulation with encased end pieces (thin CLS timber cut to suit). Edge strengthening yet to be done (though might not bother).

27°C now (was 29 a bit earlier). A mini-heat wave. The weekend after next is apparently another 'big one' (though sounds cool compared to what you're going through). The blinds worked so well that I'm trialing out temporary shutters made of foil bubble wrap before installing a permanent design

Suspecting that BBC are trolling me. On sunny days, their prediction is constantly 3-5°C below what it really is at my location. But maybe in the foothills of the Downs, we have a micro-climate?

BBC predictions: 25°C max rising to 29°C. But it's not solar midday yet and we're already up to 30°C on all three shaded thermometers (all in different locations)

First test day of 1.12kW reversible cycle AC 'escape room' with COP 2.8 and using fans to see if it can cope with whole house cooling (~100 year old property post fit insulation installed). 30°C outside, 20.5°C at centre of house, 21.5°C sun facing rooms. Still exporting solar!

Finished just in time: all bays now fully filled with insulation. The two with possible rain impact bays also have liner inner side (I managed to come up with a way to do it and will be buying more of these if they come up at Lidl again: seriously useful)

There's been a lot of talk about lines, but none about rectangles! 🤬 At our latitude, any random rectangle, if it aligns with winter solstice, will also align with summer solstice and will also align with a lunar standstill. 🙃😉 (also applies to any other symmetrical layout)

PS extra advantage is dehumidification for winter. Three of the rooms with bays suffer from damp. Discovered why: here's what the bay cavities looked like when opened for new window install. (some old insulation scheme where the installers didn't give a ****), so that's also getting an upgrade.

Bay window opened in advance of install. All this got cleaned out and new membrane and insulation installed.

Used a tuya monoblock so most of it was done by a general building maintenance firm (no FGAS needed for monoblocks). Cheap ones often identical to expensive but with a different badge! Kept house at 22° with fans today (but very very cold in "escape room").

Met some very officious Tennis ladies who wanted to know what we were doing going down a ramp. Seems it didn't occur to them that it was a disabled ramp and not exclusively dedicated to the club. The view of solstice from the ramp is heavily guarded!
